NYC teachers field trip
I am trying to think of some cool places to take my students on field trips. My students are all have ASD. They are 5th and 6th grade age wise and 3rd to 5th academically. I am looking for a library too since most of my students have never been. I am in Manhattan but we can go on subway/ bus/ etc.
Thanks

I took my 3rd graders to the SONY Wonderlab. It's in Manhattan. I've also taken trips to the Bronx Zoo, NY Botanical Gardens (BRONX), local library, local firehouse, Greenmeadows Farm in Queens, and lots of plays from Arts On Stage.

Museum of the city of New York is awesome. So is the ny historical society. The Brooklyn public library at grand army plaza is great in the spring when the display the citywide Ezra jack Keats bookmaking competition books.

Could you tell me more about it? I looked it up quickly and I am interested in bringing my class. Do dates fill up quickly? What do the students actually do?

So it is basically a giant warehouse that receives donations from various places. Then the not for profit groups come and shop for free. There is anything from old cassette tapes, office supplies, paper, furniture and fabric. We have used them in the past for props to.
For a field trip they give you a tour of the workshop. Then the students spend about 45 minutes create a piece of art from recycled supplies guided by a representative. We are going in November. Just call them up and ask for the education department. It is a cool trip and you can eat there if you want!

I did the Materials for the Arts with my 2nd graders years ago. Very cool trip.
I would have loved to have gone to the Transit Museum, but they never replied to phone calls and emails.
