Hospitals that take baby to the nursery?
I delivered at LIJ and kept the baby with me; BUT I was never pressured to. I wanted to personally. I remember there being plenty of babies in the nursery and different times for various reasons. I couldn't imagine the hospital can force you to keep the baby. They might seem "pushy" but you can probably still say no thank you please take him/her. But I don't know for certain-just my opinion.

Re: Hospitals that take baby to the nursery?
I don't know of any hospital that mandates that the baby stay in the room. I have a friend who recently delivered at Winthrop and she had the baby in the nursery for some time.
Most hospitals encourage having the baby in the room, but they will take the baby in to the nursery by request.

I think most hospitals prefer you room-in with the baby, but if you let them know you're unable to care for the newborn then they'll take them to the nursery.

I delivered at North Shore Manhasset - we kept him with us every night (because we wanted to), but they told us multiple times if we need him to go to nursery, they'll gladly take him.

I delivered there 2 years ago and didn't have any problems sending DD to the nursery every night. She'd go in around 10 and they'd bring her to me around 8 every morning. I'm delivering there again in about a month, so hopefully nothing's changed!
ETA: I think if you advocate for yourself and tell them that you're feeling too weak, in too much pain, etc- they'd have to take the baby to the nursery, no matter how much they try to push rooming in. They won't want that liability!

Hospitals that take baby to the nursery?
I have a close relative that works in maternity at winthrop. While protocol is that the baby stays with the mother, I know for certain that if you ask them to take the baby to the nursery so you can sleep they will.

The hospitals push to keep the baby with you and even more so if you breast feed. If you plan to BF then the nursery will send the baby back whenever they cry. I know hen I had my DS they pushed rooming in but would take him to the nursery....I FF and if he got fussy they brought him back. I had a CS and my Dr told me the best thing for my recovery was to move around as much as possible and walk so I was def out of bed a lot and was able to take care of my DS most of the time.

It's YOUR care, you can ALWAYS request that they bring the baby to the nursery.

i delivered at lij last week. with my first dc, i kept her with me the whole time because they pushed it and i didnt know any better. i was recovering from a c and dh stayed every night to help me bc i couldn't do it. this time, dh couldn't stay because he had to go home to dc. i sent the baby to the nursery and they bought him when he needed to feed( i was breastfeeding) they didn't give me a problem at all.

Gettig sleep at night is the best thing you could do the first few days. I had a hard time sleeping in the hospital i went to bed late and told them to please feed the baby a bottle for the middle of the night feeding but other than that wake me so i could breastfeed. They totally jhad no problem with that.

I can speak for Winthrop since I work for them. They do push rooming in (hard) and the reason is because they want you to bond with your DC and breastfeed. If you want to send your DC to the nursery they cannot refuse you, BUT you may get resistance from the nurses.

Thanks!
I delivered at Katz NHP and sent my twins back to the nursery every night. No issues. No resistance.
