Happy and nervous question Abt twins
So I had my first sono today I had 1 single embryo transfer at 3 days. Today they saw 2 sacs on the sono I'm only 5 weeks. Of course I'm thrilled but then I had to go online and google and I am reading on so many sites that identical twins usually have 1 sac but can sometimes have 2. I'm just nervous now and have a million different scenarios playing in my head. Did any one here have an embryo split and clearly see two separate sacs on sono?

my sister & i are twins and were told we were fraternal but we look pretty identical so we researched this a while ago. (still havent done the DNA test to find out the EXACT truth). There are some theories that are sort of half & half identical/fraternal- that it can split after the fact.

Re: Happy and nervous question Abt twins
I have triplets with a set of mono chorionic diamniotic twins (one placenta, two sacs). Similar situation to you - two took, one split, the rest is history :) did they say if they saw one or two placentas? Regardless, be relieved- two sacs is definitely better than them being in the same sac! A mono amniotic (one sac) pregnancy is more high risk. Two sacs is a good place to start. If they have two placentas then even better.
If they do share a placenta, try not to worry to much. I know a ton of mono di twins who did just fine, mine included!

Re: Happy and nervous question Abt twins
Thanks ladies for your responses!! I'm only 5 weeks today so they can't really see anything besides the sacs at this point. But the sacs seem far apart so idk if they would be sharing a placenta. I just called my doctor as well and he confirmed to me that in 1/3 of identical twins they do form their own sacs he said its not uncommon so I feel much better now!! As long as their healthy thats all I want.

Congrats!!!!
Your doc is absolutely right, 1/3 of identicals have their own sacs and own placentas (di/di) I have 2 month old twins who were di/di and I had 1 egg at trigger.

Re: Happy and nervous question Abt twins
I did pgd testing so we knew we transferred one girl and one boy day 5 transfer. I am currently pregnant with 2 boys with their own placentas and own sacs. Drs say based on what we know they must be identical but its super rare for 5 day embryos to have 2 placentas and 2 sacs. Guess we will find out in a few weeks if they are identical or someone made a mistake!!

Oh Godforbid!! Lol I literally called my nurse and said did they put someone else's eggs in me on accident? She was like omg Catherine nooo lol. This whole thing makes you think crazy thoughts. We are blessed and need to just stop worrying and be happy! Congrats on your identicals!! I think it's an amazing gift and I'm thrilled.

I completely agree... I feel so blessed after years of struggle to finally have my babies regardless of their sex. My husband was disapointed bc he wanted a little girl and I am 38 so probably not going to try for anymore. Everything happens for a reason but my drs are baffled by what happened so we will see in a few weeks. Best of luck with your pregnancy and be sure to take care of yourself. It definitely gets harder towards the end but remember to rest and drink lots of water!!
