I do like hosting holidays but I like smaller more intimate gatherings. My favorite is thanksgiving but this year its 10 people and it's very overwhelming

Re: Holidays
I hate hosting holidays- I find that it is a lot of work and stresses me out. I have hosted a few times and then I'm always like "never again" lol. When someone offers to host I will gladly accept!
ETA if I had to pick a holiday to host I would probably pick Easter since I just do a big ham which is easy to make plus sides.

Re: Holidays
I love hosting but my family is getting so big now that it's become a lot of work. Were getting close to 30 people now with all the kids that have come into the family so it's crazy.
I like hosting Xmas the most. My house always looks so cozy and festive and it is my favorite holiday. I always host Xmas Day for my DH's family and I also do Xmas Eve a lot.......which is my huge family.

Re: Holidays
I love hosting Thanksgiving. My mom usually does every other holiday so it's nice to take one off her hands. My kids love to help carve the turkey. I really love that they know what this holiday is all about so it's special to me to have it in my home. It's usually no more than 10 people.

I host Christmas and right now, I'll say I love it - and mostly I do. The day after Christmas I will tell you I'm done and not doing it again next year (but I will do it again! lol)

Re: Holidays
I have only Hosted Thanksgiving and I like it. There are no other expectations along with the holiday. Christmas = Gifts. Easter = Easter bunny & baskets for kids, etc. Thanksgiving is just about getting together for a great meal with the people you spend your life with.

I used to love hosting and always do Xmas Day! I do find it a lot of work though and I def do not get to enjoy. I have about 20 ppl and it's a long day. I have done it for years though and will continue to.

This. It's weeks of planning, cooking, shopping, cleaning and stress. Only to be left with a huge mess and usually a lot of drama. I like to enjoy the holidays so I prefer not to host. Being a FTWM doesn't help either.

It's a lot of work. I prefer to host on Easter or Fourth of July since they're more simple menus.

Re: Holidays
We lived in a NYC apartment until January so we've never hosted a holiday.
We are hosting Thanksgiving this year and I am sooooo excited!

I'll let you know after Thanksgiving! ha!
This is the first year I am hosting Thanksgiving and it has turned into 26 people - 5 of them are kids. My excuse in the past was my house was too small but we moved to a bigger house in August and I have no excuse. My cousin usually hosts Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve so I said that once we move I will do Thanksgiving.
Let's see if I offer that up again next year...lol.

Re: Holidays
We started hosting Christmas last year when DD was shy of five months and it was our first holiday in the new house. We will continue to host because we have a child now but definitely not a fan. I don't even cook! My mom takes care of most of it and other family brings food too. DH's mom and sister visit and I honestly am not a fan of having people stay over. I wouldn't mind hosting but having out of town guests definitely puts a damper on it.

Re: Holidays
I host Thanksgiving, Mothers Day, New Years, and have the family over twice a year for the kid's birthdays. I'm also thinking of having an open door policy this year on Christmas. Our immediate family (parents, brothers and sisters and their SO, kids is 15 people). Each and every one is a PITA in some way or another. I probably enjoy the kids birthdays the most because I don't have to cook we order either pizza, Chinese food, or mcdonalds.

Re: Holidays
I host Christmas Day and I love doing it! I really enjoy having everyone over in our home. To me, it's really not stressful. I try to set up the day beforehand and do a lot of the cooking ahead of time. The day of is pretty much just heating everything up. We have anywhere from 9 - 15 people.

Re: Holidays
We host a lot. DH and I used to have to be at a million places at once before we bought our house. WE hated it. So now we have everything and everyone at our house. It's so much easier.
Granted; everyone always brings something; so its really not as chaotic as it may sound.
We host Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.
My favorite is tossed between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. After a few cocktails; it becomes a lot of fun.

Re: Holidays
I like hosting the holidays. I like to cook and enjoy being a hostess in my home. But it's a lot of work, so I don't host every holiday.
I host Thanksgiving: Sit down dinner for anywhere from 10-14 adults, depending on the year, and a few babies/kids.
I also host Easter: Usually around 35 people, so it's all buffet style... tons of apps and drinks, buffet dinner, and huge dessert table. Our extended family comes, lots of cousins, etc.
I also do smaller holidays throughout the year for our immediate families - Mother's Day, Father's Day, sometimes a bbq over Memorial Day or July 4th, etc.
I don't host Christmas Eve (my mom does) or Day (my DH's cousin does), but I do a fancy Christmas morning brunch for my parents every year so that they can see DS on Christmas morning before we head up to Westchester to spend the day with DH's family. I like to prepare special brunch items that are decadent and that we wouldn't ordinarily have.
My favorite is probably Thanksgiving because it's so traditional and it's a small enough group to do a nice sit down dinner, so I use my fine china and enjoy setting a pretty table. It's less overwhelming than Easter, which can be nuts, and is more of a true holiday than some of the other smaller holidays I host throughout the year.

I usually host Christmas Day. I am not really into hosting. It's a lot of work, and I am always stressed out up until we sit for dinner. After that I am good. I like going to other peoples homes better, but I will continue to do Christmas until someone else says they want it
