Sleepover guest wet the couch

My 11yo son had a friend sleepover last night. This morning I woke to find them up and dressed, and the couch wet with pee.

Our guest has slept over twice before, and had peed both other times.

I adore this kid, didn't say anything on any occasion, and managed to clean the couch just saying something must have spilled on it. The one time he peed on the mattress, I had to throw it out. I couldn't get stink out.

Should I mention this to his mom? Part of me is thinking I'd want to know if it was my kid. I'd want to help him. The other side is believing his parents know about the issue and I'd embarrass them/him by mentioning.

That's tough.

Maybe you can just preface it by saying you know it's an awkward conversation to have but you are concerned about his health.

11 seems to be like an old age to still be wetting oneself.

And this is not the first time it has happened....

I would wait to have the convo when he's not around though.

I wouldn't say anything unless you are super close friends with the child's mom. I would just buy a plastic mattress cover to put on whatever bed the child is sleeping on next time.

I agree.

I'm surprised the parent never mentioned to you. If he did it both times, it mustn't be a rare thing. Often a sign of sleep apnea or other sleep disorders, no?

I wouldn't say anything either. My friend's son had this problem, it ran in her family, both her sister and her mother had it too. They did not grow out of it until late teens, early 20s. Her son wouldn't sleep at his friend's houses because he was too embarrassed. My friend lives quite a distance away so sometimes she would come visit with her son and spend the night and I would just put a mattress cover on his bed. That's probably the best solution.

What an umcomfy situation. I think covering the couch next time would be a huge embarrassment to the child, and bringing attention to the problem. I personally wouldn't say anything, but I also wouldn't have the kid spend the night anymore to be honest.

How about using washable sleeping bags?

If you want to have him over. They make disposable pads from one of the pull ups brands. Place that under a sheet and no one is the wiser.
