Another question (sorry) - Vegetarian Paleo

Again, my search function is being stupid.

Does anyone here do vegetarian Paleo? Are "Paleo" and "vegetarian" mutually exclusive? If not, is it really ridiculously challenging finding stuff to eat? I mean, it sounds like a good way to eat, but I don't eat meat any longer (however, I am not vegan) and I guess I always associated Paleo with lots of meat.

I saw some pictures of myself from Halloween and I wanted to cry. I have gotten so heavy. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I saw the photos. I am such a food slob, though. I think being dead is pretty much the only way to curb my appetite at this point. Chat Icon You know how when you go out to eat with your girlfriends and the waiter brings the food to the table and your friends all gasp and say, "oh my! I'll never be able to finish all of this! I'll have to take most of it home!" Yeah... I've never said that. Ever. So... would Paleo potentially help me feel full? 'Cause I'm really seriously starting to think I'm missing that switch in my brain. Chat Icon I was like this as a meat eater and it is no better now that I am a plant eater. I'm just a pig, I guess. lol!

Please help! I really would like to change my whole mindset rather than "just lose weight"... though I definitely need to do that, too, for my health. I need some serious help lol.

I experimented with paleo and do not eat meat either....it's a lot of prep and would not be a lifestyle for me. I eat seafood so that helps.
It's doable but just not for me.

From Pinterest I got several recipes that I like and still make even though I don't strictly follow paleo because For me, grains and legumes are part of my diet. Good luck!

I am happy to see that it is possible at least!

lilqtny, why do you love it? lol... I know that's a broad question. I suppose I'm looking for something to help me lose some weight so I can feel a little better (I have a few fun autoimmune issues). Right now, with all the extra weight, I am exhausted and exercise is a challenge because it literally pains me. So I am hoping to get started losing weight via diet and then I can add in exercise as I lose. Does this sound reasonable?

Also, is this safe for kids to do? Meaning, will I have to make separate meals for my kids? Finally, any websites you really like to get me started on trying it?

Sorry for all the questions lol. Thank you so much for your time and advice!

What do you eat as a Paleo Vegetarian?

What are your protein sources?

I eat a pretty clean vegan diet most of the time but would feel like crap if I didn't get protein from beans & legumes, etc.

If you want to change your mindset I dont think going on an extreme fad diet is going to be sustainable. Especially if you have children and are trying to consider them in your meal planning. Have you seen your doctor and had your blood work done? How about seeing a dietician?
Have you ever tried weight watchers?
I think starting basic like education on portion size, eating enough fiber, whole grains, more veggies, less processed etc is the way to go.
I dont like the term Paleo anyway, we just cant eat the way our ancestors did! And I dont think any of them were vegetarian lol!

Another question (sorry) - Vegetarian Paleo

I love how I feel as a vegetarian who also follows the Paleo diet. I didn't have to change much to accomplish this because I have never been big on processed foods.

I eat fresh fruit and veggies. Many veggies have protein in them. Spianch, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Kale and Artichokes. I also use a paleo protein shake. And I eat egg whites. Lots of them actually.

It isn't hard at all. It's actually very easy for me to accomplish. It does take some planning though.

Also, I would not classify Paleo as a fad at all. It may only be mainstream as of recently but this is a way of life that many having been using for years. And I'm not sure why you feel that we can't eat the way our ancestors did. It's easy. Take out the junk. Eat what grows or roams on the earth if you are a meat eater.

Yours sounds like a great way to eat! Unprocessed and fresh/local is a great way to go! I just dont like the term Paleo because being from a training in anthropolgoy and health/wellness it isnt accurate. Maybe "clean" eating is a better term?

Isn't a protein shake by definition not paleo? Chat Icon

There are few foods more refined or processed.

I just don't understand why fake protein powder is allowed but beans are not!

Thats sort of my point. And the OP mentioned her kids. As a mom I know how difficult it is to eat healthy and maintain my weight plus feed my kids healthy but tasty options. I dont want to eat differently than them so I just focus on clean, unprocessed, balanced nutrients.

Another question (sorry) - Vegetarian Paleo

It's the only "not paleo" food I consume. It's approved by the DOCTORS who first wrote about the paleo approach. It's egg white protein. Beans cause inflammation and other problems. I suggest everybody reads the Whole 30 and educates themselves on the problems that foods can cause.

My only argument is about using the word Paleo. It is impossible for us to replicate the diets of our ancestors from 2 mil years ago. They should come up with a new name!

I've read the whole 30, I am not impressed. They restrict white potatoes - for no apparent reason. Potatoes are nutrient dense, just seems arbitrarily restrictive.

I eat a clean, mostly vegan diet (I eat eggs once or 2x a month). I think that legumes and certain grains (lentils, quinoa, etc) are very healthy and provide a lot of health benefits.

Diet is such a personal thing, I suggest everyone experiment with what works for them.

I believe they retracted their position on white potatoes, and now recommend them.

Another question (sorry) - Vegetarian Paleo

My very personal two cents : I think there are many great aspects to the Paleo diet ( no processed foods, no refined sugar or flour, lots of whole, nutrient dense foods) also, it eliminates so many food groups that if you have any food sensitivities you probably feel better. However, I also feel that legumes and pseudo grains like quinoa offer tremendous health benefits and I don't like the fact that the paleo diet eliminates them for everyone. Personally,I feel wonderful including these foods in my diet and don't do well with lots of animal protein. I also strongly believe in vegetarianism for ethical and environmental reasons, but I do believe that not everyone can succeed on this diet. My Dh tried and he cannot eat legumes and quinoa in large portions. It tears up his gut. He was a vegetarian ,but had to incorporate fish and chicken into his diet. He feels better this way. So, short answer : you need to listen to your body.

Another question (sorry) - Vegetarian Paleo

I applied a modified 21 day fix (still in it) and it completely reset my eating and my body feels great again. I'm a vegetarian so I had to do a little more research but I refused to pay Beachbody for containers and a food plan when I can find everything I needed for free on the internet. I highly recommend it. It's all clean eating!

Thank you ladies! I know nutrition is all very personal... and I truly appreciate everyone's input. You've all given me a lot to think about - and a good basis for starting my research.

Thanks again!!!
