5 races later & looks like I'm finally going to have my 1st wet race! UPDATE: went great!

Mind you I haven't really been training consistently, so no PRing, just looking to have a fun 1/2 marathon (& for the 1st time plan to run next to my DH, I always finish 1st)

Looks like by start time it'll be rainy & low 40s. I've run in the rain in the Summer, but never in the colder temps, so how should I dress? I don't mind wet , it's the cold.

I do to think it's going to be a monsoon downpour, more of a consists all day rain. I hope Chat Icon

I've run in shorts & warm tops at this temp, but with rain would I be better with paints?

I wear Balega's socks, & they were comfy during 13miles of Summer downpour!

(Will wear a hat)

Fleece jacket? I do have a nike rain jacket but wore it one time & sweated so much. Maybe it because it was warmer temps?

TIA!!!!!

Update: I finished my 3rd 1/2 marathon for the year!

Re: 5 races later & looks like I'm finally going to have my 1st wet race! What's your best tips?

I ran a half marathon in October in the rain. Wearing a hat is a must. I also had a poncho on that I threw away right before crossing the starting line. I wore pants, a moisture wicking t-shirt and a lightweight long sleeve pullover. I tend to get hot when running, but it was perfect. I was freezing once it was over though. Make sure you have a change of clothes with you. I also had Balega socks and put body glide on my feet since I'm prone to blisters. I used to hate running in the rain, but it really wasn't bad. Good luck!

What was the temperature?

I didn't mind warm rain, never done cold, so I'm intimidated and don't want to be too hot or cold

It was in the mid to upper 40s. You also want to make sure that whatever you wear doesn't soak up the water and get heavy.

Great, thank you!!!

I'll have to remember to balm my feet! And a disposable poncho!

I of course I keep checking the weather. It's saying upper 40s, almost 50 my race start. Which is a nice temp. I'm thinking I'll run in shorts. (I wear compression socks anyway)

I just need to decide my top. Do I attempt my running rain jacket and a T, or just wear a long sleeve. I've never had tight clothes on when I ran in the rain (was wearing Summer clothes), but I'm so afraid I'll be hot in the jacket.

I think layers are good because if you get hot, you can take it off. Do you have a long sleeve lightweight top or jacket? I thought I might be hot, but I had a really thin long sleeve top that was perfect for the rain and cooler temperature. Hope it goes well!

So....thank you!
It was drizzly and a cold rain pretty much the whole run.
But my husband & I ran it together, which was a first & fun to have someone to chat with.

I wound up wearing a skirt with compression socks & cute red & green Christmas knee highs (which we thin so didn't even feel them on). A light long sleeve & then a tshirt on top. A visor & the day before found a cute antler headband.

It was just right! I do think I need mitten/fingerless gloves. My full gloves often get too hot & lately I'm finding I need warmth on the top of my hands & yesterday I did.
