Anyone here have an HOA?

Here we all have HOAs if your house is less than 20yrs old. haha. My HOA is cheap ($150 a year!) but remember if you don't pay your fees (lawn, garbage out too long, etc) or your dues you can lose your house.....

Anyway.. my question is this. What do YOU do when you and your hubby disagree on a proposal?

Someone caught my husband at the mail box cluster and asked him to sign a petition that would loosen the requirements on basketball hoops. Right now they can not be at/on the sidewalk and must be no further than the front wall of the home (So basically if its not against the garage it's a no-no) and it can not be permanently installed. It must be removed and out of sight each night. Jim sees kids play in the street and remembers his days in NY and Long Island and figures no harm, no foul, why not? So he signed the petition for our home.

I, however, disagree. I see kids who won't freaking MOVE when cars come. I see kids who I have to honk at and small children about to dart across the street. I see balls bouncing off parked cars (we have narrow streets that people all park on the street and the driveways). I see joggers and stroller walker/runners having to go onto the street to avoid basketball hoops. So I gave him a "why didn't you talk to me first?" spiel.

He told me last night the petition failed at the board meeting. We were going to vote proxy but did not since we were a house divided. I saw his passion for fun, he saw my logic for safety.

But its the first time we disagreed on a home topic especially with a vote.

What you have done?
Oh and haha for fun which way would you have voted? Overturn the bylaw or uphold it? Chat Icon

I like this neighborhood, quiet, clean, joggers, kids, friendly, safe.

I live in a HOA. DH and I haven't disagreed yet on anything, we just voted our new board via proxy, and we agreed who we wanted out and who we wanted in.
(Btw, I'd vote no for the basketball hoops)
