Will there be table games? Like craps?
I don't think table games are legal in NY unless on an Indian Reservation. The Resorts World and Aqueduct can't have them for that reason.
The article says table games... then again, it's Newsday...

Maybe electronic? Like Empire Casino has electronic roulette and maybe electronic craps.

I'm pretty sure they have changed this. The capital region, southern tier, and Hudson valley are all getting traditional casinos with tables - they are not on Indian reserves.

The 55 & older community across from Target will probably offer shuttles over to the casino!
I can see that happening and the casino will probably be the ones offering, becaue that demographic has the $$ to spend

I think only 3 upstate casinos got the license for tables

Did anyone hear about this? Casino is to open at Fortunoff location.
I really don't see the big issue with this.
eta- As far as people being angry that they bought a million dollar condo near it . . . I don't see how a casino is really ruining the neighborhood. They already live in a congested area with tons of businesses around. What's a casino added to the mix? It's not like they're throwing up a casino in a quiet neighborhood.

Gross - If I had purchased one of those million dollar condos I'd be LIVID right now .......
Sorry but if you're going to spend that much money you should know not to buy next to a shopping center, as something was going to happen sooner or later.
Seriously. I think anyone that buys a million dollar condo next to the mall is a fool. Smithhaven Also has really nice condos next to it. I don't get it!
The one my parents live in is very gated and private. I don't think they're fools, the community has a lot to offer and one of the main draws for them was convenience. The complex is beautiful, as is their unit! Theirs isn't a million dollar unit but there are some in the complex, i'd imagine.
My parents also live in this community. Its beautiful and amazing. They also choose it for convenience. Everything is close as opposed to where they were previously. And like the PP said- its gated, secure and extremely private. You don't see or hear the traffic, and you can take the back roads everywhere.
As for the casino, most people in the community are opposed to it bc they are worried about the influx of crime. But, glad to hear that the one in Queens has not had that effect.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the connection that people are making between a casino and an increase in crime? Casino's are incredibly secure in terms of their money -- most profits are stored in vaults that are state of the art and many times underground. The machines are tamper proof, meaning if you try to "jimmy" the machine in anyway, an alarm will automatically go off alerting casino staff. Are people referring to crime in terms of getting pick-pocketed at a casino? Or robbed going into and/or out of the casino? If so, I'd say the chances of that happening are no greater at a casino than any other congested place on Long Island such as a mall, shopping outlet, or even Penn Station.

I think people imagine a casino will draw seedy people.

Roosevelt Field already draws in seedy people, the casino will just disperse them more

On a side note, about 2 miles outside of downtown Boston they are putting a Wynn resort /full casino, exactly like the one in Vegas. Breaking ground in June 2015. A lot of people here are not happy but I am excited! I don't really see casinos as a bad thing.

My first reaction is awesome! Second reaction - fear of more crime, etc.
So I will add my own anecdote. I teach close to the new Resorts in Queens. As a staff, we were very concerned what this would mean for our families in the community. So far - nothing! We haven't seen any blow back in the area. Just my experience.
So I'm not sure this will be a terrible idea in terms of crime. I can't speak to traffic, etc.
Agreed. I live about a ten minute walk from the casino at Aqueduct. Everyone was so worried about crime rates and traffic. Honestly, there hasn't been an increase in either. They planned out the casino very well in terms of logistics.
I agree ... I can see Aqueduct from my front porch ... the first few weeks were traffic hell but now honestly I don't even know it is there ... Unless you count me giving a donation every 6 months or so I have no issue with the casino in my front yard

I thought this was some kind of city rule, but I could be wrong.
