cost of day care
I am newly pregnant and already worried about the cost of day care, as I will need to go back to work full time after baby is about 3 months old.
If anyone was/is in the same boat, would you mind sharing what you pay for child care - 5 days a week, full days (est 8:30am-6pm)? Just need a general $$ per day, week, or month to know I am looking at reasonable places. Money will be tight!
Thank you in advance, for helping a money-conscious first-time preggo!

Yup, that sounds pretty average. Part time isn't all that much less expensive either.

$1500-1600 a month for full time 10-11 hours a day. This was price at two different centers in Western Nassau.

This. It went down about $100 a month when we got to 18 months.

im currently paying #300 a week, but i get 5% off due to paying in full monthly by check. I am also at a big center place- feel free to pm me any questions. I went back at 12 weeks, and baby was there from 630-4 daily. now he is there from 630 or so until 330. 5 days a week. love where he is at. hard at first but gets better.

Wow everyone, thank you! This is so helpful.
Just to consider all options, what is another option? Are in-home day cares generally less expensive?!

cost of day care
I'm in NJ but I think the price points are similar because I just got a flyer in the mail from one of the chain places that recently opened. They quoted $1400 per month , full time for one child. Insane ! I really wonder where all that money goes because I've had friends who were day care workers who make $9 or $10 per hour. I guess they use the money to cover overhead ? Very interesting from an economic stand point.

They are generally cheaper. They will run between $40-60 a day. They do have a less capacity for infants so start calling early. I was a licensed provider for years. There are so many amazing providers. They are checked on by NY state unannounced a few times a year. They take the exact same amount of training that a licensed center does. You should start by calling child care council of Nassau or Suffolk depending on where you are looking.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. I made no more than $11.50/hr as a lead teacher in a daycare. My class alone had 6 kids paying at least $275/week (this was 8-10 years ago). I often wondered where the money went lol, especially after I asked for a raise after 2 years and got a whopping 50 cents an hour.

People claim the cost is so high because liability insurance costs so much. Who I knows if it true.

I know people who have owned daycares. Not sure where the money went but they definitely were not rich by far!
For the infant classroom it was $1,400 a month. This is western suffolk

cost of day care
$265 per week for an in-home licensed daycare for 5 days/7a-5:30p. The rate for me does not change the entire time my DD is there. As an infant, I brought diapers, formula and baby food. Once she started eating solids the daycare provided everything for me. She also potty trained my DD. They really are a god-send and I don't know what I would do without them.

Rent, insurance, food, art supplies and a million and one other things. All true, but the biggest expense, from what I've read , is the liability insurance. They need to protect themselves if parents sue. It is too bad the economics break down that way because I think you'd get better quality staff and less turnover with higher wages. A family friend with a college degree works for $10 per hour at a daycare. The only reason she is able to survive is because she lives rent free at home. Crazy situation.

cost of day care
We pay $1250 for over a year, 5 days a week, 630-430 (but can be up until 630PM).
Other options are trying to find an at home daycare or a family member/babysitter. A nanny is more expensive. My cousin LOVES her au pair, which is an option but you have to have housing for them.
