Talk to me about your pharmacy....
Trying to get a feeling for if this is normal or not.
I use Target pharmacy. I had thought that if I'm at an appointment and the Dr. calls in a prescription, it would be ready or close to ready once I get to the pharmacy (assuming 20-30 minutes goes by between the time the Rx is sent, I check out at the Dr's and drive to the pharmacy).
Wrong!
Once I get there it's as if they weren't even going to start to fill it until I show up. I say I'm there to pick it up, they look to see if they've received it from the Dr. and I'm always told it will be 25-35 minutes. This is a PAINFUL wait with a sick child, a husband who just had his wisdom teeth out, etc.
Is this normal? When your Dr. calls in an Rx to a pharmacy is it ready (or close to ready?) when you get there? Do they actually wait until you show up to acknowledge it exists and begin the filling process?

Talk to me about your pharmacy....
We use CVS. DH was at a Drs appointment last week and they called in a prescrition that was ready when we got there, directly from the Dr appointment. Most times they are pretty good about that.
Although, I have had times with CVS when I'd get a text notification that a prescription was ready, or came back at the time I was told after dropping off a prescription and when I got there, it wasn't - very annoying!

Talk to me about your pharmacy....
It really depends on how busy they are. I use Target too and sometimes it's ready other times it is not. But this is how it has been at every place I have ever used.

I use CVS and it's usually ready when I get there. The most I've had to wait is 10 minutes.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
We use CVS also. The DR. has some sort of app and sends it electronically. I usually call once I get into the car to make sure it is filled and it almost always is. Just one time that I can remember it didn't go through.

Talk to me about your pharmacy....
I use a local neighborhood pharmacy. If it's not ready right when I get there, it's ready in less than 5 minutes after. The only downside is that they close at 7pm...
I used to use CVS and it would take HOURS! I filed a complaint with their corporate - it was so bad one time - DS 2 had an ear infection, I gave them an hour and then went there and sat an hour - even though I was promised it sooner. I wanted to get him his first dose before bed but, that didn't happen.

One of my favorite things about where I go to the pediatrician (and even ob gyn) is that they have a pharmacy on site. By the time I walk over there from my dr, in the same building, is ready. No driving somewhere else and getting in and out of a car seat

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
my local mom and pop will have it ready before hand if they're not busy but 20 minutues is quite a lofty expectation.
my rite aid will not. i always call beforehand because sometimes they can do it reight away, sometimes they say it will take a few hours.

Talk to me about your pharmacy....
My cvs is never ready. I'm always waiting for something for at least 30 mins. I switched to stop and shop. Haven't pick anything up yet but hopefully they are better.
I hate pharmacies.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
I use CVS. Yes frequently it can be anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours but I never wait. I picked one with a drive in. They text me when the script is ready and I go then and use the drive in. I have gone straight from the drs before. They saw I had sick kids and expedited it for me. This way I also don't have to drag my kids out of the car and I don't have to stand around a bunch of sick people picking up their meds.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
Neighborhood pharmacies tend to be a lot better than CVS regarding customer service.
I had the same experience at a 24 hr cvs recently.

We use CVS. We have about a 20-25 minute drive from the doctor to the pharmacy. Usually when we get there, it just needs to be mixed, which takes 2 minutes. It's a drive through, so we just wait in the car at the window.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
It does depend on how busy they are. If it is coming via fax, they might not see it on the machine. They get prescriptions by many various methods, and it is a big clusterf... But, as of 3/27, all prescriptions must be submitted electronically, so it will all be streamlined, and should be better. You can always call when you're on the way just to be sure it they have it, and it is in the process. They can give you an estimated time for pick up.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
We use Walgreens and the rx has always been ready before we've gotten there to pick it up. Sometimes I even get a call that it's ready while I'm on my way still.

We use Walgreens and if it has been called in, it is ready when I get there. If I drop off, they usually estimate about 30 minutes.
I also use one with a drive thru pharmacy so I don't have to take my little guy out of the car if he's not feeling well.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
We use cvs but when they do it online it takes a half hr for the pharmacy to get it. You would think they would expedite seeing you have a sick kid there!

Us too (HMG?). It's so convenient and we've never had to wait more than five minutes.
Our CVS is also pretty quick. I would try another pharmacy.

Re: Talk to me about your pharmacy....
We use a mom/pop pharmacy close by. Love them! If the doctor calls in or faxes it is usually ready by the time I get there and if not within minutes.
Just last week I had to pick up a script for DS who had an ear infection. I forgot to have the office call it in. When I got there the pharmacist saw that my son was not feeling well and had the script ready in less than 10. I really think he may have skipped others to get me home with DS sooner.
