Engagement Ring dipped
I need to get my engagement ring dipped into white gold. Can you recommend a place to go? Do you have to leave it overnight? How much can I expect to pay? Nassau County preferred. Thanks.

Re: Engagement Ring dipped
I use Gennaro Jewelers in Bellmore to redip my ring. They do it while you wait (it gets really crowded on a Saturday morning though). I want to say it's about $65.

Yes, I second Gennaro Jewelers. They did my MIL's and it came out amazing.

Re: Engagement Ring dipped
I did mine at TriCounty. They let me stay with the ring and I think it was only $25. I didn't realize how yellow it had become till I had it dipped.

I used Gennaro's and had a great experience. I would also recommend them.

Engagement Ring dipped
Where ever you go make sure you can stay with your ring the entire time while they dip it. I had a horrible experience with a jewelry store in Roosevelt field mall. I had my ring appraised, brought it back to the jewler for its cleaning and they roped me into having it redipped. Brought my ring back to the appraiser only to find out they switched a stone!!! There were other issues as well after I had gotten it cleaned and dipped that had to do with the quality of the ring but the main thing is they switched a stone. So stay with your ring! My second engagement ring (because we fought hard to get DH'S money back 3 mo the before our wedding) we got from tri county flea market. Italian designs. Every time I went there for a cleaning or anything they made sure I was with my ring and had my eyes on it at all times. Not sure if they are still there but they are wonderful.

Engagement Ring dipped
Forgive my ignorance, please, but why would an engagement ring need to be dipped? Was there a white gold coating over yellow gold and it wore through?
I thought only costume jewelry needed to be redipped/recoated when it wore through. I need to have favorite pair of costume earrings redone, but do not know here to go anymore. If anyone can suggest a place, I would be grateful. TIA

White gold has a coating of rhodium on it to protect the gold. White gold is yellow gold with nickel in it to make the color white. Nickel will eventually tarnish and fade after the coating of rhodium had worn down leaving the ring looking slightly yellowed. Once they redip it the ring looks brite "white" again like brand new!

I recommend Gennaro's as well! They don't let you leave your ring.
