Northport near 25a is way too far north. East Northport near Jericho I heard is one of the better areas.

I feel it may be less save around the streets like 1st, 2nd, etc and the 1st, 2nd Avenues near Pulaski. Should we try to be as far south from there as possible?

isn't this elwood schools? = higher taxes

i've heard the # streets arent as good but had plenty of friends grow up there and didnt seem to be any issues.

I work a second job late nights until 1 am / 2 am and I want to make sure that my fiancé is safe because I'm not sure if there's been any burglaries or break-ins and we want to raise a kid and a family.

If that means getting a place closer to 25 and further from Pulaski then I would prefer that.

But I think we have all said there aren't any bad areas. Break in can happen anywhere but east Northport is not a hot bed of crime.

Even north of Pulaski?

Are you looking at a Neighborhood Scout crime map? Those indicate which areas are safer than others. Keep in mind, that doesn't mean some areas are unsafe. What separates safe, safer, and safest could be very minor.

I have also been looking at Trulia. Under their crime map you can see reds and yellows and oranges in th Ave sections. And also what has been the recent crimes in the past six months or so.

I saw to look between both of them and figure out which areas are affordable and what areas are the least desirable.

I'd rather be in one of the safer area rather then one of the less safer areas. But again I'm not sure what NeighborhoodScout bases the information off of.

I grew up and now live right off of Clay Pitts Rd and it is a GREAT area ! There really isn't a bad area in any part of East Northport or Northport. But I find my neighborhood to be most convenient because my DH commutes to Nassau County for work and myself Smithtown. IT is also convenient to all shopping !!! OH and did I mention the schools are phenomenal ! ??

I wouldn't think twice about letting my children ride their bikes around the neighborhood. ( they are 15 and 12)

If you don't mind me asking what are the streets surrounding you? What numbered section on the link that I had posted a few post above?I'm looking for something as I stated in the price range of 350 to 450.

I've seen houses listed around my area in that range. Probably on the higher side.... I live behind the IGA on Larkfield ... Atlantic Street is one of the main roads that runs through. And I am in Northport School District .... NO way you can compare Elwood to Northport Schools OR Elwood for that matter ...

What are the differences and pros and cons of both schools would you say?

Elwood is a very small school district with a lower graduation ratio than Northport . Northport not only has a phenomenal academics programs but also athletics and musical programs as well. My son is in 9th Grade and is already taking college credit classes. Elwood neighborhoods can be iffy, especially in the "El " section. There are essentially no crime ridden neighborhoods in Northport or East Northport and the "bodegas" near Pulaski Road are not that , there is ONE Spanish deli and it is right next door to my nail salon and several other businesses. Are taxes a bit higher in Northport/East Northport.... yes , but are you getting what you pay for ,? Absolutley 100% YES!!!!!

The El section is "iffy" in your opinion? I lived in the El section for eight years. It is not "iffy" whatsoever in my opinion. And I grew up in a million dollar area in Dix Hills. I'm truly stumped why you think this. Granted the properties and homes are smaller, but the homes are generally well kept, the people are decent and quiet, and we never ever had an issue with crime. We had great neighbors, and left my door unlocked all the time. And as far as I'm concerned, Elwood vs Northport SD is a moot point. They have different strengths and issues, but neither is far superior.

To the OP, you really can't go wrong in East Northport. Get a realtor (FM if you want the name of a great one we used), drive around and just see for yourself.

We are now in Fort Salonga/Northport, and love the area.

ITA. To the OP, I would also consider expanding your search to Northport and Fort Salonga. Again, might be tough in your price range but definitely worth investigating.

Stop looking at the map. Go, drive around, and get a feel for the areas. There are many different parts, but again, no bad parts.

I am in E. Northport. I grew up in the President streets, between Vernon Valley and Laurel.
I am now off of Claypitts, toward Townline road. We love it here!
Our street is a cut through, so, my kids do not play out front. The street I grew up on, we ALWAYS played out in the middle of the street.
We are in the Northport district and I cannot say enough good things. I have two kids, both special needs and Northport has been nothing but amazing!
As for the "El" section, I do belong to an E. Northport Moms group on FB and yes, there has been more postings about break ins (cars mostly). Sadly, also reading that in a Commack group too.
I don't know much about the Elwood district. I do know it's smaller and as a special ed parent, I'm not sure Elwood ranks up there with Northport and their special ed programs.
Go to open houses. See where you feel more comfortable.

The "el" Section we are going to check out today as well as an open house in that area and we're going to go to the Avenue streets and we have a few houses that sold in our range written down. We also have a few columns of what houses are 10k, 9k, 8k, 7k and so on and taxes.
