Daisy Information/Feedback
I have heard some good things about Daisies, but do not know enough to take the leap and enroll my daughter for September. She will be 5 then and starting Kindergarten.
What do you know or what have you experienced with the Daisies that would be important for me to consider? Also, how big of a commitment is it to be a troop leader? Thanks in advance!

Don't know much about it now, but I was a Girl Scout from kindergarten until 12th grade. I highly recommend it for teaching girls leadership skills, and how to be themselves. I credit much of my success in school and life to my start in the Girl Scouts!

I have sent NUMEROUS emails to Suffolk County Girl Scouts to get my daughter involved. I sent the first email before she started kindergarten. She is half way through first grade, and not one of the emails has been acknowledged.

Re: Daisy Information/Feedback
This is my DD's second year in her Daisy troop and she LOVES it. They have meetings after school once or twice a month and they do really cute projects and activities. There are lots of other activities throughout the year they can take part in (ice skating, caroling, parades, etc) but everything is optional, there is nothing that is mandatory. I think it's been a really fun experience for her, she looks forward to all of her meetings and activities.

DD started Daisies in the fall. So far, it has been a positive experience for her. Each meeting has a different focus. She has gone on field trips that she found wonderful, ie going to the nursing home to read to the folks. So far, she looks forward to going every week.

I think it totally depends upon your troop. Ours is just ok...a little disorganized and I don't feel like they do enough activities or service projects. My girls like it, so we stick with it, but I wouldn't be upset if they said they didn't want to do it again next year.

Daisy Information/Feedback
My kiddo is a Daisy.. Second year in. She loves it. I love it!
We have a small troop. Only 7 and its perfect. We have one a month meetings. Our moms are super lay back. I take AJ off on my own for trips, camping and activities but we also do troop stuff. This past weekend was the Mother Daughter Tea party.
We do service stuff and community service but mostly its supposed to be about the GIRLS HAVING FUN.
I took over the troop in November and that's what I have focused on. They can have fun and help others. So far troop leadership has been easy because the other ladies in the group are so lay back. One is a bit of a girl scout Nazi but the rest are just cool with the girls having fun together, learning to be good people, trying to be helpful and feeling pride in being part of a sisterhood that encourages good civic behavior.

That's horrible!
Our school has recruitment (not my troop) at the PTA meetings and other school functions. Try the middle school. The area middle school is the service unit the elementary schools all report up to here. Can you call the Service Unit? Cause generally its super easy to get into a troop.
Tea Party:
I want to remember how they stood so next year we can duplicate the photo!
one more.. same event

Re: Daisy Information/Feedback
I did it for years when I was a kid - loved it.
I was also able to sign up for a lot of other activities through the GS and get discounts on it because I was a GS -- like horseback riding, kayaking, summer camps, etc. Not sure if this is different now but it was great then!!

You have to call the council to get put on the waitlist NOW if you want your daughter to be in a troop for K. The troops are limited since the volunteers needed to run them are limited. They require A LOT of training, etc. from their volunteers, so it's no wonder they don't get a lot.
My DD is a Brownie now. She enjoys it.
