Are white pocket books just a bad idea?
My dad's girlfriend wants to get me a nice gift as a belated Xmas gift. I told her I didn't really need anything (This is all new to me and Its a little weird to get an expensive gift from her at this point) but she insisted on something nice, like a pocketbook.
We were out shopping for my son (she insisted on getting him something nice too, but I went for practical and let her get him a warm winter coat).
I was about to leave the mall and she said "No.... Remember? We are looking at pocket books!"
I hate coach, so that left Kate Spade and Michael Kors.
In MK I fell in love with the white hobo bag with the tassels. It's so nice. She loved it too, and said she would go with my dad to buy it for me around valentines day.
(Just wanted to give the history of why I'd even be able to consider such an expensive item right now. I know the conversation can turn into just saying no, asking for something more practical instead, just taking the money or all the other possibilities but she explained that she really wanted to get me something nice. She lives with my dad and they are talking about engagement so this isn't a brief fling. I think she's trying to do something to kind of bond with me and just feels she has the opportunity to get me something I couldn't get for myself)
So, anyway... I'm in love with this bag. I don't own any light colored bags. It's leather. The woman at the store said to get the spray they sell that helps keep it clean, and she had the same bag and just is very careful with it and has managed to keep it immaculate.
Does anyone have a white leather bag? I feel it would be so nice for spring, but I doubt it can be my everyday bag. Even going out at night I'll be paranoid about a waiter spilling red wine on it or something. But, I feel for nice spring/summer outings, it would be such a nice accessory. I have so many good, practical everyday bags that can't get ruined, so this would be an extra for me. Truly something that she said she wanted to get me. Something special I'd never get for myself.
What do you think?

If you love it, go for it. I have a white Dooney & Bourke - I'm just a little more careful with it when I use it, but it sounds like you deserve something special!

I have a white leather B. Makowsky that my grandmother gave me. First I wasn't sure, but it's a beautiful bag and I use it every summer & love it!

This is a silly question, but when you use it during the summer, like where? As your everyday summer bag? Or as a special going out bag without kids and stuff?

I have 2 white bags that I use in the summer. One is larger and I use it as an everyday bag.. I use the smaller one when I go out because it's a little fancier. I've had them for a few years and they're both still clean.

I have a terrible time keeping them clean myself, but if you LOVE the bag, then I say go for it!

For me, it's a bad idea. I have been known to get black bags dirty.

Mine is on the larger size (at least for me - I like smaller bags, generally) and use mine as an everyday bag

I have an ivory bag that I loved, but I rarely use it now because it just looks soooo dirty to me! Same with a pink fabric Coach bag, love dit when I got ito keep using now. I did use both bags regularly though and maybe thats why they got so dirty and dingy looking.

Well I don't have kids, so can't help you there! I do change my bags quite a few times a week, but I do find I reach for the white most times in the summer, sometimes go weeks without changing the bag, which is a rarity for me! As for keeping it clean, not as bad as you think. I also found the Magic Eraser works wonders! I say if you like it, go for it! Sometimes it's nice to just have something because you like it.

Go for it! I personally wouldn't be able to use a white bag daily but i would buy one for weekends etc.
