I believe surgery is the only way for them to confirm you really have it. Symptoms vary for each person and they don't necessarily correlate with how severe the endo is.

This exactly. I have stage 4 and I had horrendous cramps during my period, constant ache in my abdomen, painful intercourse, painful bowel movements, burning cramping, spotting between periods. I needed prescription meds for the cramps, they were so severe. A gastroenterologist sent me to a Cornell RE who recommended lap surgery asap to see if its endo. It can only be diagnosed during surgery. Many woman are symptomatic like me leading to diagnosis but many woman have it in locations that are not painful or noticed. Usually with those women, infertility is what leads them to surgery for diagnosis. If you think you have endo, I suggest you def consult with a surgeon who specializes in removal as soon as you can. Endo is so damaging to the organs and you want it removed asap.

Re: Endometriosis
I just went through this. My symptoms were very painful periods, not heavy but literally in bed dying for two days and the days leading up to it I had terrible pains in my stomach. The Dr. suspected Endo and sent me for an MRI first where it showed multiple masses all over my organs (urethra, bladder, colon, appendix). I then had Laproscopic surgery and feel so much better. Endo can only be diagnosed by surgery, mine is stage 4. My tubes thank god were not affected and my ovaries look good according to the dr. The surgery was in Oct and my periods have been so much better. If you need a reccomendation I LOVED my drs. good luck
