When to seee a RE?

DH and i have been trying for over a year. I spoke to my obgyn who wrote me a script for an HSG. I have a high level of anxiety about proceedures like this so i have been putting it off.
I was thinking today (after AF arrived) that maybe i should go to a RE first before the hsg. Are there other tests they perform before an hsg that could identify the problem?
Please share your experiences with me to put my mind at ease!!!

When to seee a RE?

When to see an re is up to you. The drs will say after a year if you're under 35 and after 6 months if you're 35 or older. I think it's also a personality thing. Some go earlier and want to move things along, some put it off bc they're not ready to deal with it.

As for testing, an hsg is one of the first things you should do. If you have a blocked tube, scarring, misshaped uterus, etc this is something you need to do. In fact all REs will make you have this done before they proceed. What's the point of taking meds, etc if your tubes are blocked. Kwim

Good luck!

When to seee a RE?

I would have gone sooner if I could go back. My ob/gyn told me to go after 6 months of trying because of my history. DH and I just assumed it would happen eventually, we didn't think anything was wrong. We waited almost two years to see one, to find out we only have a 5% chance each month of conceiving on our own.

I would make an appointment with an RE. I would also get your HSG done before you go to the RE so they can have the results in front of them and give you an accurate plan of action.

Re: When to seee a RE?

When to go is your call, but I can tell you what I did.
I will be 35 by the end of this year. DH and I had been trying on and off for about 15 months. I knew there was something "wrong" but also thought we could be missing it (timing off even with OPK). In November 2014 I decided it was time to get "help". I spoke to my new OBGYN (changed because my original was no help) and was recommended to see an RE. I went in December. I actually scheduled the appointment for the first day my period was due to arrive. At that appointment I spoke with the doctor and learned A LOT!!! He was able to do an internal and blood work that day. I schedule the HSG test for 10 days later (I think) and DH had the sperm analysis done too. Within that month we learned that DH's Motility was below average. We tried one last time that December cycle and when I got my period in January I called the RE and went back in on day 3 for an internal, blood work and started clomid. I had an IUI on the 24th and currently in 2WW. I didn't want to wait and keep trying any longer. It was putting stress on us both and the relationship. My s-x life became about making a baby and not enjoying being with the man I loved. I am hopeful we can get back to where we once were after I get my BFP but honestly this stuff changes you. Before it does I recommend going and seeing if there's an issue.

I would make an appt with an RE. You will likely still need an HSG, but it's up to you if you want to get it done beforehand or under your RE's care. And RE will also run many other tests, monitor you throughout the month and have your husbband get an SA.

Re: When to seee a RE?

In my personal experience I would say see RE first. I had my hsg done by my RE dr droesch at LI IVF. It was a little uncomfortable but not painful. I have heard of ppl who were just scheduled for it by their ob and then a radiologist does it and gyn exams aren't something they do everyday and it was more uncomfortable. Dr droesch I thought was great and talked me through the whole thing which def helped with my anxiety with it all too.

Go to a RE. IMO its not good to wait too long. Even after I went to a RE it still took over a year to get pregnant. If I can go through all the testing, blood work, and procedures anyone can. I WAS a baby about all of that but if I wanted a baby I had to do it all. GL
