Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
If my dh and I had the money and time we would travel more. 4 out 6 of our siblings live out of state or a good distance away. We barely see them. Dh remembers going on 1 vacation when he was growing up. My parents took us at least once a year on some vacation even if it was close.

Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
We do one big week long vacation per year- usually in the spring. Then we will 1-2 weekend trips- one in the summer and one in the winter. Living on LI I don't feel the need to do a big vacation in the summer since we could go to the beach every day if we wanted to. Plus, my kids really like routine, so when we go away even though they have a blast, they are so cranky and out of sorts for the first few days after we get home. But that is my family. If your kids adjust well and you have the time and money- why not!

Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
No - not IMO. As long as you can afford it, and you have the time I don't see any reason not to go away on vacation - We take the kids, and try to go alone once in awhile as often as possible. A weekend, an overnight, a week whatever - it's nice to get away and recharge.
And for us - it helps us to spend time together just the 2 or 4 of us without any other obligations or interruptions
No games, no practice, no laundry/cooking/cleaning, house improvement stuff - No sharing the kids w/ family ....etc. Just us -
I personally don't think the readjustment period after a vacation is a reason NOT to go ........but DH and I have always taken the kids everywhere, so they're pretty easy going. And a great time together for a few days is worh a few cranky ones to readjust. WHO is every happy about coming home from a no work, all play vacation?

Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
Depends on the family in question! For us, weekend trips are not ideal. It's draining, pricey, and none of us really enjoy trips to hershey park, great wolf, sesame place etc.
We prefer going on longer trips , closer to 2 weeks. My kids seem to have great memories of our longer trips and weekends at the beach. Not the weekend trips. We also like to save X amount every year (aggressive) so that cuts down on our budget for travel

Heck No! If you have the time and money then go for it! Making memories and spending time together is important and that's what vacation is about. It's sad we live in a world where we feel guilty when we use our vacation days.
I agree.. I would go on as many as vacations as my job, DS's school and bank account allows. Sometimes that means no vacation a year, others means 2-3 a year.
Heck one time I packed my DS and went to Cali by ourselves because my DH couldnt go. I love me some vacations!!

No way. The more the better in our house. We go skiing 3 or4 weekends in the winter (Fri - Sun). We usually do a beach week with another weekend or 2 at the beach also. We usually do 2 trips to Europe a year to see family and then also squeeze in somewhere in the Caribbean at least once. We both work very hard but we also like to play hard and spending time with the kids making memories. I hate coming home from a trip without having another booked LOL. We are very lucky that we both make good money and since we both work long hours we can work around the time off from work.

Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
I say you are like me! We think alike! We have 2 girls and went to Disney in December, going back again in April and also doing the Disney cruise, May we are going to Cabo with friends and then in August, we rented a house in Hilton Head for 2 weeks! Oh, and hubby and I did Vegas in October and will do the same this coming October! If you can afford it and have the time...DO IT! Life is too short! Friends of ours will comment and say things like wow you are going away again, must be nice! And I say, yes, thanks it is! I have a very hardworking husband and we love and welcome any opportunity to go away and make new memories with our girls, or just ourselves! We try and go a night or two to the Borgata in AC every 2 or 3 months also! Love it and wouldn't change! People who talk crap are quite honestly, jealous! Keep vacationing and don't feel guilty!

I'm on a plane at least once a month. No such thing as too many vacations. As long as your life/finances are in order, why not

Never too much. You never know what the future might bring. You may not have the choice for so many reasons one day. Live life.

Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
Not at all...
If I had the time and the money I would go away as much as possible. I love seeing new places and wish I had traveled more when I had the chance (pre-marriage and kids etc...

Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
If you have the left over money each month to not have recurring monthly debt payments, are still able to sock away X percent of your monthly income toward retirement, and maintain an 8 month emergency fund, plus a flexible job that allows you to take vacation days liberally - then I don't see why you can't take advantage of it and travel as much as possible. Consider yourself lucky if you can do this. Traveling is best when you can do it when you are young and have excellent health/energy!

Re: Is there such a thing as too many vacations?
Absolutely not! If you have the time and money and aren't sacrificing your financial security or shirking other adult responsibilities, I see no problem with frequent travel. Now is the perfect time to travel because you're young, have your health and your children are still young. You can still make memories with them. Once they're grown and you become older it becomes more difficult to round everyone up for a family vacation. I say go and have fun and don't think twice!

If you can do it, why not? I think we go away 2-4 times a year.
It gives us something to look forward to.
