Crib Help?!
Hi Girls,
I am almost in my 3rd trimester and the DH and I have been looking into cribs.
Originally we were going to use a nursery set from a relative... but after reading that it's not a good idea to use a hand me down crib, now I'm nervous to use it?!
We don't want to spend a lot of $ b/c we are renovating our kitchen so we have lots of costs right now.
The DH doesn't think it's a good idea to get a crib made out of pinewood b/c it won't last and will get scratched/damaged... but if we get a set that's not pinewood (crib and dresser) it'll run us over $1000.
Just wondering others' thoughts and opinions about this issue.. and I'm not sure if I should still consider using the hand me down crib? I think it was used by this couple's last child and she's 5 now.
TIA!

Crib Help?!
You can get a nice crib/bedroom set from Babies R Us, which I found to be more reasonably priced than Buy Buy Baby. We got all our furniture from BRU -- its Delta brand, not pinewood and the crib/dresser was less than $1000. Target also had a few nice sets, Burlington has a large baby depot and sells furniture, and BJ's/Costco might have 1-2 sets in stock that are reasonably priced.

Kohls sells this crib also -- before you purchase from BRU, check their website -- if you have a 30% Kohls coupon, you could save a lot of $$$!

Crib Help?!
As long as it's not a drop-side crib, I don't see why you cant use it. If this was your second child, would you not reuse the crib from your first dc?

Re: Crib Help?!
I would use a hand me down as long as it's not recalled etc.
I got mine from Amazon. It came with the toddler rail too which a lot don't come with. It was also free shipping. So the total was like 280.
I have a friend that got hers from burlington coat factory. They have nice cribs there too and are also a little less expensive than bru or bbb

Cribs will likely get scratched or teeth marks no matter what.

Crib Help?!
For my son, i was in search for a grey crib. The one i like the best was from Wal-Mart. I think i paid about $200 for it which was a lot less than i intended to spend. It has held up very well and i will be using it for my second child.

Re: Crib Help?!
I got a graco Lauren for dd, now 2 and it looks new. Just got a delta for baby boy. They both convert to toddler.
Both were under $150 from Walmart.
Kids are animals with furniture so I refuse to get them anything nice until they are older. Cribs are temporary.
You can use an old crib as long as it's not drop side.

Crib Help?!
They say you shouldn't use a crib that is from before 2011 because the safety laws changed dramatically for the better. To me its just not worth the chance no matter what shape the crib is in. There are a lot of good inexpensive cribs out there.
I think you need to keep looking. My husband and I got a pretty high end bedroom set made out of maple and the whole thing, 4 furniture pieces cost us $2500. While I don't remember each pieces individual price, the crib was the cheapest part of the set. So I am sure you can find cribs made out of other materials for less then $1000. My mom is getting a beautiful crib from Kohls for $200, but I think it is Pine.
I will tell you though, your not leaving a lot of time. I ordered my crib in October and its still not here yet. Some places and brands are quicker then others but theres usually at least a 7-8 week turn around.
