10 week and 11 week appointments

hey all. i have my 10 week appointment which would be for the genetic screening only. i just do a blood test and don't see the doctor. the following week would be my second ultrasound/appointment with my doc.

im wondering if it would be bad to ask to hear the heartbeat at the 10 week one, and then wait until a full 12 weeks to have my next scheduled appointment.

thoughts?

10 week and 11 week appointments

When I went last pregnancy around 13 weeks, I was told that we may not be able to hear the heartbeat with just the doppler since it's harder to hear with it than with the ultrasound. However, we were able to. Just wanted to let you know that at 10w, you may not be able to hear it with the doppler. Doesn't hurt to ask though!

It's funny how different practices do things so differently! I had my NT scan today at 12w. They did the sono and the blood test.

yeah, my friend said that they checked the heartbeat at every appointment she went to.

maybe ill call the week before my appointment and see what my options are. because i had a MC in december, i feel like i need the reassurance. i need to past this!

My doctor did the heartbeat at every apt.

My practice did the blood and Sono at the same time. That may just be standard for your practice.


You can also rent or purchase a doppler through babybeats.com if you need reassurance. I have one and listen to every night.

I felt the same way after having two previous miscarriages - my doctor was so understanding. She had me come in for close monitoring almost every week, and then every other week, in the early stages. She would play the heartbeat for us each time. We first heard it at 7 weeks with the little machine she has in the office (at that early stage, it was transvaginal). I am now 17 wks. They checked for the heartbeat at every appt. If they couldn't find it on the doppler they would follow up with a sono.

I heard the hb at just over 10 weeks, then a week later it was more difficult to find the hb (I had bleeding which is why I went in and demanded an u/s because I was freaked out), all before my 12 week u/s. Little man moved around so freakin' much even as he got bigger and bigger that he was difficult to catch on the doppler some times.

they use the doppler at every appt at my dr. in the beginning they actually wouldn't play the heartbeat sound on the ultrasound machine. they said they don't know the negative effects of doing it. i know some places still do it though

I heard the HB on the US machine at 7w2d based on the sono (I thought I was 8w5d based on LMP)
Tomorrow I go for my 10 week appointment.
