I would just check COD fuel. You can check prices and at this point in the year I wouldn't sign a contract.

I always use Discount fuel. Always the cheapest to everyone I compare to. And if you like their FB page; they have a code for $10 off.
Here is their site:

This is what we use. We are not contracted with anyone and it has worked out well for us even with how cold it was the last two winters.

If you rent, check your lease.
Your landlord might require you to have a contract that includes service in case something happens.
Just be mindful you have to check your tank regularly and even more often the colder it is.
We did COD and my hubby used to check it regularly until one cold snap we ran out of oil.
My IL's have Petro, a contract, and they ran out of oil in this cold weather because Petro miscalculated how fast they would go through the oil. They are retired, home all day and it's been soooooo cold.

Re: Northport area: Who do you use for oil?
It's hard to compare apples to apples from everyone's offers because they all have different contract prices and different caps. When I was looking for a company end of 2014 Lewisy had an attractively low contract price, but their cap price was higher and so was their per gallon rate that day compared with 2 other companies i called. So I'd pay less for a contract but more each time i got oil, comparatively. At the time, Petro had the best overall offer when I calculated it out to compares apples to apples.
