xpost: (NPR) please come in if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer
So, I just got the call that the lump I found in my breast about 3 weeks ago is cancerous.
I am a little shocked and don't even really have any questions or anything yet - even though I'm sure I probably will.
I went to the Carol Baldwin Center in Stony Brook for my mammo/sonogram/biopsy. They were wonderful. I have an appointment with Dr. O'Hea, a breast surgeon, in a few days to talk about everything. I'm sure that he will have info to share with me...but I feel like I don't even know what questions I should have...
The radiologist said that it is small (don't know the exact size) and according to the mammo and sono, it seems like this is the only spot. She said they Might recommend or do an MRI to check the whole area I guess to be sure. She said Dr. O'Hea would talk to me about that more. She said that since it is small, a lumpectomy would probably take care of it. II am a little surprised with all of this as I am on the young side (37) and have no family history of breast cancer.
Just looking for any advice I guess? It doesn't seem like it will be too big a deal? Does anyone have any experience with the Carol Baldwin Center and/or Dr. O'Hea? Treatment? Any suggestions about questions to ask? My DH mentioned getting a second opinion?? etc.
TIA!

No advice only lots of hugs and prayers for you. You must be in shock ...I know I would be. I would post this on the families board as you might get more replies over there. Lots of luck to you

Dr. O'Hea is awesome!!!! He will discuss every option available with you. I suggest you bring someone with you because you won't remember everything he says.

I am 35 and just had surgery for Breast cancer. Definitely try to push for the MRI, I had areas that only show up on MRI. See what your surgeon says and go from there if you want a second opinion. I got 2 opinions for the Breast surgeon, plastic surgeon and oncologist. Be prepared that if you do lumpectomy, radiation is almost always done after that. Feel free to message me with any questions. I'm sorry you have to go through this!
