No tub in the bathroom?
Thinking of renovating our main bathroom. I would love a big walk in shower but it would mean removing the existing tub.
The problem is, our house is only 1.5 baths. There would be no tub in the house. We very rarely use the tub and have no plans on selling but DH thinks it might be bad for re-sale value (down the road).
I think we should have what we want and worry about adding the tub if / when it becomes an issue.
ETA What do you think?

No tub in the bathroom?
Not a fan of tubs, would rather love a walk in shower with a bench!
Taking baths is gross to me / sitting in your own filth I don't have one and it's not an issue.

Since you don't plan on selling I don't see an issue with doing what you want, but when we were looking at a house to buy having a tub was a big deal and we passed on the house bc it didn't have one. Among other reasons, but that was abig one. So your dh is probably right about that.

Not to hijack, but we are in a similar position. I would like to make the bathroom closest to all the bedrooms a big walk in shower.. We don't like tubs/baths for the same reason stated above. I would still have a tub in the house, just not on the floor with the bedrooms. I don't plan on selling anytime soon if ever, but I wonder if that would be an issue if we ever decided to sell...

No tub in the bathroom?
For us, a house without a tub was a deal breaker. I love baths. I would think families w/ little kids would need a bathtub to bathe their kids.

Re: No tub in the bathroom?
I took out my tub and put in a big walk in shower , but I am in a co-op. This is my only bathroom and I know it may hurt my resale potential down the road. For me, a walk in shower is better than trying to climb into a tub. Both DH and I have back issues, and I also have arthritis in my knees and hips. The tub we took out was so tiny.

No tub in the bathroom?
If you planning on being in your house for a long time then I would do what you like best. If you plan on reselling in a few years then I would keep the tub.
We are in our forever home and I plan on doing what I like in it. If in 30 years I can't sell or lose money because of something I did, I probably wont care lol.

No tub in the bathroom?
If you plan on being in the house for a while go ahead and do what you want. If down the road you want to sell and the fact that there is no tub is a deterrant, all of the plumbing and sapce needed to put the tub back in will be there, so it will be a relatively easy and inexpensive fix.

Re: No tub in the bathroom?
I do think it would hurt resale value but if this is your "forever" home then it may not matter. I wouldn't personally buy a house without a tub.

I'd do it. You have to enjoy your space!!!! You can always add it back if you have to and a million other things could affect resale the future, I wouldn't worry about it.

No tub in the bathroom?
This is what I want to do in our bathroom that desperately needs to be renovated, but we have a tub in the downstairs bath.
My contractor said pulling the tub out and putting the shower in would be $$$, which is why we're holding off for a while.
I hate tubs and I hate baths, so obviously I would go for it!

I wouldn't do it, unless you KNOW you will never move. Anyone with kids will need a house with a bathtub.

No tub in the bathroom?
Our house did not have a tub when we purchased. We ended up putting one in. If you are not selling then I would not worry about it.

Re: No tub in the bathroom?
I'd be worried about eliminating the only bathtub in the house….seems risky.
In our last house, we converted a full bath down to a half bath to give us more room in the den (it was one of 3 full baths). When we had a realtor come through to list it, we got seriously chastised for removing the tub/shower. Then we listed the house and accepted an above-asking offer within 2 days.
Morale of the story is that there are always people on each side of how to do these things. In our case, the realtor was against us…..but we and the buyers saw the value in the room we added to our family room.

This is for me too. I love my baths.
Eta: I also have a dog and he gets a bath in the bathtub.

Re: No tub in the bathroom?
Tubs are not just for baths. I use the tub to soak blinds, clean out the garbage cans, etc. For me, a house with no tub would be difficult.
