puppy vs. kitten
My two cats past away a couple years ago & I really want to get two more but my husband wants a puppy for our 3 year old to grow up with. As much as I love dogs, I feel like a dog is way too much work. We only have one kid & I'm overwhelmed already I'm home now but in a couple years I'll be going back to work so the poor thing would be alone most of the day. That's sad for a puppy or kitten but I think cats are more independent. Just looking for some opinions. Are dogs that much more work? Is the work worth it to see your little one cuddled up in bed with a puppy?

puppy vs. kitten
Puppies are worse than kids. I swear. And unlike kids, you can't reaSon with them in a few years as they grow.
You said you're overwhelmed now - I would never suggest a puppy. Are the cute? Sure. But it's so much work. It's messy. They chew everything - they can go to nip. It's a nightmare and it's even more of a nightmare when you have young babies/kids.
Plus puppies don't stay puppies. And you have to be ready to devote it all to them - can't just be out for the day with the family and maybe be out a few more hours - have to go home to feed or walk dog.
Plus they are expensive. Food and supplies and vet bills. Flea and tick meds. Ugh.
I know I sound bitter but I'm not - just honest and realistic.
Sooooo i would say kitten. Or nothing
Pets are wonderful but I just don't think it's ideal when you have small kids and work and stuff. Doable sure. And if you have the dog first and then add a kid, cool. But young kids and adding a puppy = beyond overwhelming.
Jmo. :)

both have pros and cons but whatever you decide I would strongly suggested an older pet. For one, you will know their personality faster, they are less work no paper training, no teething etc.
I got my dog at almost 1 yr old, cat the same

We just got our first puppy last year after being strictly a cat household and believe me, the amount of time, energy and money going into this puppy (she's a Siberian Husky) is beyond anything that I ever experienced with a cat (we also have two cats). Even given the time, money, etc. I would not trade our dog for anything. She brings so much life and joy into our house that we don't have with the cats.
