When Did Your Children Outgrow the Stroller?

My Chat Icon Chat Icon are going to be 4 in June. They are two very active little boys. Although they love a ride in their red wagon around town, I think it would be difficult to transport them in stores. I'm not sure if they are even allowed in stores. LOL! They seem to be outgrowing their double stroller. What do other moms do? Do you walk hand and hand with them in the store or do your children still stay in the stroller? Since they're both potty trained, it's a pain in the neck bringing the stroller into the bathroom since I have to bring both boys in the stall with me. I'm often by myself on weekends so my options are limited. Any advice is much appreciated! Chat Icon

My DD is 3.5 and she walks in the stores. She doesn't even sit in the carts anymore when food shopping. I really only bring the stroller to the mall cause it's a lot of walking, but even then, she's constantly in and out of it walking next to me.

3ish for my older, 2 for my baby.

We do hand holding everywhere. Now that they are older, they can walk ahead conditionally (as long as they are behaving well).

Kids have lots of energy... They both can walk all day long.

Around 3Yrs, I was pretty much done with the stroller. I think DH used an umbrella stroller a few times at a fair or mall. At 4, he was walking with hand holding. But I can imagine it's difficult with two 4yr old boys!

My twins are 4 and depending on how long we're going to be I still put them In double stroller. I also have a 2.5 year old. Sometimes he will go in the double stroller with one of the twin and the other twin will walk. My twins are very active and taking them big to the store and letting them both walk is a workout and usually ends in all of us being super cranky. Sometimes I put backpack harnesses on them. They are runners and will take off in a heart beat.

DD is about to be 4 and while she walks most of the time she does still get tired so we do use the double stroller and or the glider board thing on the single stroller often when out with DS (who is about to be 1). My in laws use the double stroller for things like the zoo and other all day outings.

When Did Your Children Outgrow the Stroller?

My son is 3.5 when we go into stores he sits in the top of the cart, more bc I dont need him grabbing things which is easier to do if he is walking lol with twins it would tough bc one would have to sit in the cart. What about a sit n stand?

My daughter was close to 3 but she has never been one to sit still! I just gave up on the stroller by then and she's a lot better at staying with me now. Sometimes she'll even sit in a shopping cart which is awesome when that happens.

My girls are 2.5. We stopped using the stroller at around 2. They just want no part of it. I wish they did. So we always walk in the stores with them. If Im alone and we're in a parking lot, They each hold my hand.
Admittedly, I usually lose one or both in a store for a few minutes but I can't contain them in the stroller anymore.

Re: When Did Your Children Outgrow the Stroller?

My son is 5 but very small and tires easily (he does have low motor tone). I still have one in my car for longer trips. He can handle quick trips but the mall is a definite stroller ride... His jogger holds up to 75 pounds and his other stroller hold up to 50-55 pounds.
I will keep using it until he doesn't need it anymore... It is easier for me and him..

Re: When Did Your Children Outgrow the Stroller?

Mine are close to 4 and 6 (boys)
I don't care who looks at me, rolls their eyes, has something to say .......they will still sit in the stroller if we go to the mall.
It just makes my life 100X easier. I can't carry bags, and hold the hands of 2 boys who just want to RUN - if their feet are on the ground, they are running ...
Also, on the very rare occassion that I do go to the mall with both of them in tow, it's on the weekend when it's so crowded you can barely move - I would keep them in that stroller until they were 10 if I could !!

My little guy still sits in the cart in Target too. Again, it's a PITA enough to keep the older one with me, and try to get done while making sure he hasn't wandered off somewhere .......with the 2 of them, forget itChat Icon

Same here - except 3 and 5. We also use the stroller too for long walks.

Re: When Did Your Children Outgrow the Stroller?

My DS is 4 next month and still uses the stroller if we go shopping. At the supermarket, he's in the top part of the cart.

DS@ is due in July and I'll be getting something that will allow DS1 to sit or stand if we need it. I don't expect to use it a lot, but will have it just in case.

DD is 4 and while we don't use it for anything other than walks around the neighborhood or on a local walking trail we go to, she still goes in it for that.
We like taking long walks and she would never be able to keep up.

The summer right before she turned 3. We used it about half the time we were at Disneyland. After that, once the weather got colder and we weren't outside as much, we just stopped bringing it with us. She's 3.5 now and to be honest, I don't even remember where it is.

I imagine it would be different though if I were a SAHM - when I'm home with her in the summers, I do like getting outside and taking long walks, and I wouldn't have her walk for 20 minutes or more yet - her little legs couldn't keep up.

When Did Your Children Outgrow the Stroller?

I feel like they are done with the stroller when they start walking! My kids are 2.5 and 6 and it's mostly the 6 yr old that wants to ride in the stroller. We always take it with us because one of them is going to get tired of walking at some point.
