surveillance cameras pointing at my house?
Our neighbor has a camera on the side of his house underneath his gutters, and it's pointed right at our driveway. When I am in the bathroom, I can see the camera through the window pointing straight at me and it creeps me out. Is it legal for someone to have a camera on their home, but pointing at my property? Not sure what we can do about this..

I don't think it's illegal for him to have the cameras angled at your yard. We have them and no matter where we direct them when they are facing away, we are looking at someone else's property. That's not our purpose though. Our purpose in doing that is monitoring our front/side yard.
I don't know what kind of system your neighbor has but ours would never be as far reaching as to be able to see into your bathroom. It's a clear shot for like 10-15 feet from the camera, but after that it gets very grainy. I can see movement as far as across the street and can tell if it's a car or a person, etc. on the street but I can't make out the fine details.
If my neighbor approached me about being uncomfortable with the cameras, I would show them the video screen so they could see for themselves that I can't even see what is on their front lawn, never mind into their windows.

Call your local precinct and see if it is illegal and what can be done. If it is truly pointing in to your window, it is most likely illegal. If it's not, they may just suggest you talk to your neighbor.

We JUST had this conversation yesterday. My brother noticed a camera underneath our neighbor's gutter... it was tough to tell if it was facing us or not at first, but DH confirmed it is NOT facing our house. If it was, I think we would have called them out on it.

We had this last year at our townhouse. The neighbor had his camera pointed at our driveway and out the back towards the playground. In both camera views my daughter could have been video taped waiting for the bus or playing outside. We called the police and they had him take it down. It was not illegal though but since it involved a minor they were more "forceful" in suggesting the be removed.

Just some food for thought. My friend.. actually an LIF user.. just had her house robbed. Her neighbors security camera taped the guy. I would say it worked out well for her. I think the footage on those things are so grainy that they couldn't see in your windows anyway.

My husband does this for a living and we have cameras everywhere (even on our mailbox to catch license plates) Our house was robbed once and it was horrible.
Our neighbors actually appreciate knowing that the front of their home is also under surveillance in case of any issues or that our cameras will catch a car coming or going that just committed a crime on our block. The first place police start to look if something happens is any neighbors with cameras...they really come in handy it caught our perp and we were able to get all our belongings back. I can tell you we cannot see in their windows.
