Baby shower question

So I've been looking for places to book & found one I really like but now my husbands cousin just offered her house and my husband feels like it would be money saved to go towards something else. However, my shower is Co-Ed & therefore there will not be less than at least 60ppl(not counting children who may attend) the offer is sweet but the whole reason I'm not using my own house is because I feel like with so many ppl things would run smoother in a hall. I think house showers work better for smaller girl only events. With a hall, ppl are in one space & they leave when it's done. In a house I feel like with that many ppl, it will be hard to keep everyone in one space/area of the house for festivities and then there's always ppl who linger lol...Do my hormones have me overthinking?

Any thoughts? anyone have success with a house shower with 60ppl or more?

Baby shower question

I'd never do a house party with 60 people. At least not without hiring at least 2 people to set up, serve, and clean up.

That's how I feel but men never think of the logistics of stuff like this. Renting a space just seems easier

My first shower was at my parents house and we had 50-60 people, but only a couple of kids. My mom did hire 2 people to help serve and clean up. It ran very smoothly and was a beautiful day. My sprinkle was also at their house but that was only 25-30 people, no kids. For that, my mom handled it on her own, with help from my aunt and sister.

Baby shower question

I would never have that many people at my house. I like having things out bc they take care of the setup, serving, cleanup and there is a start and end time.

I don't think you save that much money having it at a house anyway between renting tables/chairs, catering, servers or someone to at least help clean.

I was going to say that it doesn't save you that much money. My brother had a coed shower at my parents' house and it cost almost the same as my coed shower at a restaurant.

would the person offering up her house be ok with 60 people? I agree sometimes its just as expensive and more work to have a party at the house with that many people. I personally would look for a restaurant or other outside space

Agreed, my parents Christmas parties are this big, but they get it catered, hire a bartender and a cleaning person. And your right, everyone will be in different rooms.

Baby shower question

I had a shower at home, but no where near 60ppl. However, for DS' birthday parties I do them at home and have close to 100 guests every year. Same with all other parties. Last year was the first time I hired a waitress, which was totally worth it. I do all the cooking and set up prior to the day of the party.
This year, including the cost of the waitress and decorations, I spent about $500 for DS' birthday party for 75 guests. No way I could have gone anywhere for that cost. I prefer home parties and do not like to have them out. I would have gotten married in a backyard if I could have found one I liked enough.
As for keeping people "confined" we have our parties outside. I use my DR to serve food inside (buffet style) and I also turn it to block off the den because there is no reason for anyone to be in there. The party is outside, so stay outside. Obviously, there is bathroom access and people can mingle/chat outside and in the kitchen and LR. We do not rent chairs or tables - We own a lot because we host about 1 BBQ every month during the summer. We will borrow some chairs the day of. Close family members will bring their own chairs and take them with them when they leave. A lot of the time, men stand, not sit. You need to know your group.
It works for us. For me, it is easier to do it all at home. If you are doing co-ed, make it a BBQ. My friends and family don't do well in rented spaces. They like to mingle, talk, and hang out. Restaurants are too confining for us. But backyards work great. So you really do need to know your group.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to just stick with the hall. I don't think the person who offered her house is really thinking of how it will run, she's just being nice because she lives in a area closer to the majority of our guests. I have a spacious house and large backyard and have had parties but general parties are different because ppl don't need to be in one space for organized activities, they can spread out & be in completely separate areas for an entire event, unlike a baby shower. Also, like many of you said we wouldn't be saving much in the long run & I'm fine with paying for convenience.

I agree with sticking to a hall in this situation. Unless she has a huge room that can accomadate everyone, people will be spred out throughout the house- or if you do it in the yard, you would have to look into renting tents in case of inclement weather.

That being said I did have my wedding at my parents house with about 45 people and my housewarming had 60 people and both parties people were spread out all over. Both were catered and we had helpers for the wedding.
