Hair loss/thinning

My hair has been thinning for a little over a year. For a few weeks at a time a bunch of strands will come out in the shower and when I comb it out and also throughout the day. Then it stops for few weeks and starts again. During the time that it is not shedding, it's also not really growing in either.

I went to the Dr last year, had my vitamin levels checked and my thyroid. One number on my thyroid came back a little off, so I went to an endocrinologist, he re-tested and it came back normal. Then I went to to a dermatologist. She injected steroids into my scalp to stimulate hair growth, not really sure if they worked or not. I didn't go back to her because I just didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from her.

I have been taking 1000mcg of Biotin for a month. I have noticed that my existing hair is growing longer but not getting any thicker.

I have another dermatologist appt lined up at Island Dermatology in Amityville next week.

By any chance have you lost a significant amount of weight? A lot of times that happens with weightloss.

I saw soemthing on the news yesterday- it was a report about how extensions can cause damage- but the point is they were saying that as you age your hair does naturally begin to thin quite a bit.

My hair is completely thinning and it's frightening. My hair was never super thick but I've noticed my ponytail has gotten significantly smaller. My hair definitely sheds more than it used to. I wish I could be of help to you but I can't. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Shedding is a normal process. Stress in your life can cause hair loss. After pregnancy I lost a lot of hair, after my divorce again lost a lot of hair, probably more loss than actual growth. My Mom passed away and more loss of hair.
My hairdresser said I should take Biotin 5000 mcg, I have been taking this for over a year and I do see new hair growth, my hair is not as thick as it used to be but I definitely see a difference.
Not sure if it matters but I use the Trader Joes brand.

Liquid silica has been clinically proved in double blind trials to grow thicker stronger hair. The liquid form of silica is more easily absorbed and used by our bodies that the powdered form in capsules. I have been using BioSil for about a year and a half and have had spectacular results. So much so, that the hair salon I go to recommends it to clients who have thinning hair.

I get my BioSil from Amazon and take it twice a day as recommended. It has a yucky taste so I put it in a small amount of strong tasting juice.

I also take 5000 mg of Biotin, but it was the addition of BioSil that made my hair grow noticeably better.

Any hair supplement will take a long time - six months or so - to show results as it takes hair time to grow and get long enough to see results. Anything that promises quick results is not truthful because hair only grows about half an inch a month. Also, the follicles of hair that have been shed go dormant for two to three months before starting to regrow a new hair from scalp level. It's the natural cycle.

I'm calling ********. Go get copies of all your bloodwork!! If ur thyroud was a little off I bet it's more than a little off!!! They need to run tsh free t3 free t4 thyroid antibodies. Reverse t3. This is the cause of your hair loss!!! There's sooo much more to it than that but I assure you that you are being Mis diagnosed!!! Battles this forever. Did they measure your ferritin levels? That can be another indicator for hair loss.
The weight thing is true by the way. Over 8 months I lost 50 pounds a few years ago. Diet and exercise changes... didnt do anything drastic and was losing 2-3 pounds a week. 25 pounds in my hair was coming out in clumps. My thick hair was so thin I could triple tie a pony holder. .I was so upset. I lost the remaining 25 pounds and continued to keep the weight off all this time and within the year my hair did grow back and is now super thick again.
Just wanted to give you some hope that no matter what the cause it often grows back over time

My hair started thinning majorly after having two kids in two years, then when it was just starting to stop I had to have two surgeries and the stress and anesthesia destroyed it even more. I wore clip in extensions when I wore my hair down because it was so thin I could see my whole shirt through the back and I was so self conscious. I started taking vitamins called Hair Revive that I got on amazon and they work amazing!! It's already grown 1/4-1/2 inch in a month. I had tried biotin but didn't see much results and it upset my stomach. I highly recommend.

I bought this a year or so ago but never stuck with it.
I have to go back to it. How long for you to see results? What results did you see? More hair? Thicker? Healthier?

It takes about six to nine months to see real results with hair, but you will. My hair was so thin and dry after going though chemotherapy. It looked awful. A pony tail was tiny and wispy, about as big around as my little finger. I started taking BioSil after having it recommended to me by other women who had used it successfully after chemo.

By about six months I could really see a difference. Each hair shaft looked healthy, shiny and fatter around and my hair was coming in very thickly all over my head. My hairdresser was amazed, as was the owner of the salon who works with celebrities all the time. I have heard him recommending it to people since he saw how dramatically improved my thin damaged hair was.

I had read the result of one of the clinical trials done with liquid silica before I started, so knew it would take up to nine months to see a difference. The long time period makes sense when you understand the normal shedding and growth cycle all hair goes through.

Follicles that have shed their hair shafts go dormant for two to three months before they even start regrowing a new hair. That new hair takes time to get to the surface and then grow to a length you can see. Hair grows at about 1/2" a month, mine certainly does as I can see by the roots that need coloring , so three inches growth takes six months.

Actively growing hair will benefit sooner but still it will take time for a healthier section of the shaft to grow up out of your scalp and be long enough for you to see the difference. I could see and feel the difference clearly at the points the old and new parts met. The older part was about half the dimension of the new one.

Try it again, but stick with it or you are wasting your money. You have to give it time to work with your natural growth pattern.

Liquid silica is also good for your skin, and sold as such. My ravaged skin made me look ten years older after chemo, which was crushing as I had always looked far younger than my age. Doctors I spoke to about it were not of much help or encouragement. I am convinced that the BioSil has made my skin recover as well as my hair. I look great for my age again, so much so that I regularly get compliments from strangers - a darling man gave me one this morning.

It's easy to take. I put 5-6 drops in small amount of juice every morning and again in the evening. I use the juice to wash down my normal vitamins and meds.

My hair is healthier than it has been in years. It's no longer dry and damaged. It's strong and shiny in spite of my lightening it regularly.

Yes, but I think you can get it for less. I buy from all different vendors depending on the price. I bought two 1 oz bottles for $42.95 in December from Maitri Mega Mall though I had to pay shipping of $9.48. Total was $52.43 which I think is less per bottle that what you spotted. Look again and you might do better.
