How does everyone get a good deal? I just got a new car and called to transfer the service and of course you can't just do that. They credit you and you have to buy a package again. I said I hear people getting these great deals and I never have. Even spoke with a supervisor. In the end I said forget it just credit my card. She didn't even say goodbye. How rude! So what do I do to get a better deal. When all was said and done I was paying like $200 a year for XM select. Not even the all access package.

Re: XM RADIO
Every time DH's subscription is up he calls and says that he wants to cancel because the cost is too high. They usually come back with a $89 plus tax deal so it comes out to a little over $100. I have heard of people getting a better deal, though.
ETA this is for a year...
I have also heard if you let your subscription go they will send you stuff in the mail for 6 months for $25 or something like that.

Re: XM RADIO
We went thru the same crap when we got our new car two years ago. One of the worst customer services out there.
Let it expire or cancel, then call and see what deal they will offer you. You will get mailings too.
I got $25 for 6 months for DH's car. They first offered me $89 for 6 months and I pretty much laughed and said no way, he can plug his i-pod into the car for music or stream from his phone. They came back with $50 for 6 months. Still no deal. I kept telling them no and really, what is the best offer you have out there ? $25 for 6 months. Sold.
I also get a paper bill, no credit card on file. It's a pain to have to do this every six months, but a hell of a lot better than them having any of my info on file. Cheaper too because you can negotiate.

Re: XM RADIO
I've gotten deals by telling them I'm canceling. That worked twice. Then we did cancel and the call and send dh mail all the time. Last time was like $4/mo for 6 mo.

This - they come back begging.
I was paying like $160 per year for each car - now I'm paying $50.

Re: XM RADIO
The last 2 times I called and said something to the effect of "if you don't give me the deal of 6 months for $25 I will just cancel and wait to get the deal in the mail. It's inevitable that you will send it so let's not waste both our times and please ask a supervisor and see what they can do." I did say it a bit nice than that but I got the deal. They did try to sell me on the year for $89 but I said flat out what would I pay that when I can pay $50 for the whole year doing what I just did. Call and ask. If not cancel and I waited no longer than 2 weeks the 1st and only time I ever had to cancel prior to renewing for $25/6 months!
