Training advice needed
We adopted an 8 month old bichon a year ago. He is friendly, sweet and loving, but has zero manners. He also must be some sort of circus dog because he can jump higher than any dog i've ever seen.
We can't keep things near the edge of the counter, can't have a calm meal at the table, and the kids can't walk around with any food at all without being mauled (in a friendly way lol).
So my question is, short of hiring a trainer (which we can't afford), does anyone know how to give him some manners?
Are there websites or books on how to train a dog yourself?

Re: Training advice needed
I got an older puppy last month and so far training myself. I have watched you tube videos just by searching but 2 good trainers are cesar millan and zach george is the other i think. Petsmart had a reasonable priced class for 6 weeks its $119.
The other thing i have done is meet and talk to a lot of dog owners with trained dogs. The downside of this is that the advice will vary (just like parenting) and can confuse you.
Keys are to be consistent and have a diffferent one word command for each thing you want her to do/not do. Everyone in the family has to do and say the same things which is not easy.
We are still learning but I do see improvements.
