Q if your LO takes a bus to pre-k
Does the bus driver just usually tell you what time they are going to pick up your LO or can you work with them to arrange a time? My DS will most likely continue where he is now for EI in the Fall when he transitions to Pre-k. The school day will be shortened by an hour because their nap is eliminated. Right now I drop him off for an hour in the morning at the on site daycare to get to work on time (we live close to the school) and DH is able to pick him up, but now it looks like I will need to use the daycare for an extra hour at the end of the day as well - I wanted to try and avoid extra daycare costs since I will also be paying for my DD's daycare FT, so I wanted to know if it was at all possible to negotiate pick up/drop off time or if i'm basically stuck with what whatever time they tell me. TIA!

Re: Q if your LO takes a bus to pre-k
That's a tough one. When DS turned 3 and went to the self contained class they gave me a time the bus was coming and to be out 10 mins before. It's usually pretty accurate when DS gets picked up. At that age it does vary a little bc some kids take longer to get on. Now in Kindergarten it's almost to the minute.
I think changing the bus driver's schedule will mess up with everyone else on the bus. They give you a time for a reason. Maybe bc you'r close to the school you can have it that your LO gets picked up last. That's the only thing I can think of to give you more time. Other than that it's not fair to the other kids and the driver to keep to their schedule.

Oh the bus experience - so much fun! Definitely being sarcastic lol. The bus driver does a dry run and then notifies the families sometimes the NIGHT BEFORE to let you know what time they will be picking up your child. So if both parents work - you can only imagine how stressful that is not having this info well in advance. It is not easy to make a change to the time like PP said because there are other pick ups already scheduled on the route. But if you are absolutely not happy with the pick up time you should call the bus company and see what they can do.

I've always been told that the bus company determines the schedule and they don't take requests for dropoff or pickup times. It's stressful because you don't know what the times are until the week before school starts and even then, after the first week or so of school, it may change slightly as they figure out the route.

This has been my experience as well.

Q if your LO takes a bus to pre-k
Are you asking if you can keep your DS in childcare at the preschool for an hour after the class ends, can the bus pick up your son? Then the answer is usually no. The bus will pick up at the end of the school day. If the school has other classes that end later than yours you may be able to piggy back onto their bus time but I'm not sure.

Re: Q if your LO takes a bus to pre-k
Thanks. Sorry if I wasn't clear, I wanted to know if I request could request the bus to pick up my DS early and drop him off later on the routes if that was possible, so I could avoid paying the daycare but it looks like it's out of my hands.
