Non-Stress Test?

Can someone tell me what yours entailed? Just got my confirmation call for tomorrow's appointment and the lady said NST - I felt like an idiot and had no idea what she was talking about. She couldnt give me many details as she just makes the confirmation calls. She did, however, tell me to definitely eat breakfast ahead of time. I'll be having one done since I'll be 40 weeks 1 day, and its standard procedure in this office once you're past your due date. Thanks, ladies!!

Non-Stress Test?

I never had one but it's common and non invasive. I think it involves a fetal monitor?

Re: Non-Stress Test?

I had to have them weekly at the end due to baby measuring small and my elevated BP

Basically you lay there, you are hooked up to monitors and they make you hit a button (like a game show contestant ) every time you feel the baby kick.

My baby was not a huge mover AND I had anterior placenta so at times I could lay there forever trying to get enough kicks and movements.

I would eat a bag of candy before, or some OJ or something to get her fired up.
Skittles seemed to really get her going!

Yes, you have to get undressed, put on a gown, and sit in a room with the fetal monitor on for an hour so they can check the baby and for contractions. It's just an elastic belt that goes around your belly with a plastic piece. It doesn't hurt at all. Hopefully your room has a TV!

Non-Stress Test?

I've been having them done weekly since I was diagnosed with GD. I'm hooked up to heart rate monitor (for baby) and they also can see if you're having contractions. Mine are usually only 20 minutes long and I dont need to get undressed. They are looking for specific patterns in your babys heart rate that could tell them if there are any issues. For ex. if babys heart rate is normal, but goes up slightly when they are detecting movement/contractions then its Ok (similar to when we move/exercise our heart rate increases). If its running really high for any length of time it could mean the baby is in distress or possibly has an infection. If its running low it could mean other things. The nurse explained they look for specific patterns over the period of time that tell them different things. Hope this helps!

I was the opposite of you. I'd be in and out in 20 mins or less cause DS was a movers. Women used to give me the evil eye.

I could have written this same post. I barely ever felt DS move due to an anterior placenta and I'd be sitting there forever!

Eta: I never had to undress. Just pulled up my shirt.

Just wanted to point out, I had them weekly after a certain point with both pregnancies and I never had to undress. They're just lift my shit up, put on the two sensors with straps then put my shift back down. No gowns or undressing where I went (thank God).

I get them twice a week at Winthrop-MFM
No need to undress. They just lift up your shirt and strap the monitors. One tracks the baby's movement and the other can detect contractions.

Thanks for all the responses, ladies! The NST this morning was easy-peasy. I had to undress from the waist down and they monitored me with the 2 belly straps for about 25-30 minutes.
