Ugh I can't catch a break! (First Clomid Cycle)

So after two failed natural IUIs, and hearing the thoughts of you wonderful ladies, I decided to try a Clomid cycle.

I went into LIVF for monitoring today and I have FOUR follicles, ranging in size from 17 - 24mm!

So we're going to cancel the cycle. DH still thinks we should go ahead (cus if you can't get pregnant with one then why shouldn't we try with multiple opportunities?).

But they were talking about selective reduction and all that and that's really something I don't want to have to think about. DH is frustrated that we've wasted another month, and of course I am too.

I'm also concerned cus we had sex last nigh, CD 11. I thought that's what I was supposed to do, and what I tried to do with the natural IUI's - have sex two days before the IUI. Just so we were covered. And of course it never "worked" so I just got in the mindset of more is better.

Now I'm kind of freaking out. My emotions are all over the place because I don't know if I should feel disappointed that we're not gonna get pregnant this cycle or scared that we WILL get pregnant with quadruplets!

Any advice or thoughts or hugs welcome. :(. Sitting here in the parking lot, posting to you guys, and trying not to cry. :(

I'm sorry, I've had to cancel cycles too. But you are doing the right thing especially if you are uncomfortable with the thought of selective reduction.

The funny thing is, the reason I put off Clomid for so long was because I already ovulate on my own and I was concerned about twins. The idea of quads is terrifying! I had some issues with my pregnancy with my son five years ago - preterm contractions and irritable uterus. I worry that even carrying two would be risky.

I think I'm moving more out of the disappointed camp and headed straight to panic land. I feel so stupid. I should have called the doctor to see if it was ok to have sex. I guess I've just been so caught up in the mindset of "it's not working it's not working, you have to maximize your chances."

Breathing. Trying to look on the bright side. The fact that my 36-year-old ovaries responded at all is a good thing, right? I'd been worried about ovarian reserve and this is probably a good indicator that it's doing ok, right?

And sex on cycle day 11 isn't too bad - no fertile CM yet. Although if course this is they first cycle in AGES where I just decided I wasn't going to track my BBT. I thought it was stressing me out and that I should just go with the flow. Ha.

Sorry to be so all over the place ladies. I'm still processing.

Can they reduce your dosage? I responded very well to clomid as well. I had to take 1/2 a pill and that caused me to have 2, maybe 3 follies. I got pregnant with DS with 3 follies I believe.

I know that you are really concerned about multiples. Have they talked to you about mini iVF. where they only transfer one embryo and there are a lot less meds that you take.

I was on 50mg of clomid from days 5-9. The nurse said sometimes the do 25mg Clomid or the doc may prescribe femara.

She also said that my LH surge hasn't quite started yet. So I'll probably be ovulating tomorrow night or Early Friday based on previous cycles. So maybe the sperm from last night may not be as much of a factor after all. - we'll just have to see. Right now I have to decide whether I want to cancel the cycle altogether or proceed with the IUI. Or just BD on our own, which in theory would be reducing our chances (since even when we've put the sperm right at the top of the uterus it didn't seem to help) while still increasing them (because I have four eggs).

Right now I am leaning towards just canceling.

I would really consider cancelling and giving really thoughts and have a real conversation between you and DH regarding selective reduction.

Multiples is a real possibility when you do any kind of treatments so I think you need to really consider all outcomes at this point.

I had the conversation with my DH when I did Clomid and we were ok with twins but when I had 3 follicles we were like hmmmmm not ok with triplets. But we went with it and didn't end up PG at all.

There is no right or wrong in these situations. We all have our own right decision.

Good Luck

This exactly. Anytime you use any fertility meds, you have a chance of multiples. Even with as little as 2 follicles. Some meds increase those odds.
I would have that talk with your DH.

I went to Li IVF and every cycle the re called me and gave me the selective reduction speech bc I had EIGHT follicles for an iui cycle.
After Dh and I talked it through the first time, we went ahead and did the iui.
I had 8 follies four times. 1 bfn, 2 mc and 1 singleton pregnancy.
You have to do what you're comfortable with
