Owning a house in one district/living in another
Can you send your children to a school district if you own a home there but don't reside there? So you still pay school taxes to that district.

Yes. If you rent it and the people living there use the school it might get tricky depending on the school but if you have the feed showing you are the owner you are entitled to use the schools

This is absolutely not true in the town that I live in. You must actually reside in the home that is in district to use the schools. They have actually given people who are doing construction on their primary residence but temporarily residing in a rental in a different district a hard time about use of the school district (people here sometimes move out for 6 months to a year to renovate). They do checks here to make sure are live where you say you live. And once you rent your home to someone else, they have the right to use the district, not you.

Also in the district where I work - must RESIDE there. And they will follow kids home if suspect...

Owning the home is not enough. You have to live there to be entitled to go to school there

I know someone who lives in my neighborhood but sends her child to another school district - she pays $18,000 to that school district every year.

I guess it depends on the school district then... when I had to enroll my DS for the school district, they asked for my mortgage statement, a tax receipt, and a utility bill. I don't see how they would know someone actually lives there or not.

i guess it also depends on how you rent your house out. when I rented houses I was always responsible for all utilities so all of the utility bills were always under my name.
the other way I can see there being a conflict if the person renting from you is already sending their kids to the district

you are supposed to live there, but if you own it, you can easily lie/claim that the child is residing there. I mean people lie about that stuff and use fake addresses all the time and I feel that is wrong UNLESS you own the place. Because you are paying taxes and it is your house and you have the right to decide which address you want to use.

You MUST live in my district. They are very strict and even have a private investigator residents can contact if they feel someone is violating the rules on residency.

Re: Owning a house in one district/living in another
What if someone owns two homes in different districts and spends time living at both?
That isn't my situation; I'm just curious!

I had a friend that had a similar situation. She had to send her kids to the school where her "primary residence" was. Which was her first home really bc when they bought the second home it was not able to be labeled as the primary residence since they already lived in the first home and were not selling it. It's also where her drivers license was registered and all of her regualr mail goes to.

I would imagine it varies district to district, why not call anonymously and ask.

I don't see why you couldn't if you are paying taxes on the house

Absolutely 100% not true.
you must show proof of RESIDENCY not ownership. Most districts have a number people can call to report students who are in the schools without being residents

Re: Owning a house in one district/living in another
Kids go to school in the district of primary residence. You pay taxes on any property you own. If you think you won't get caught, do you really think your kid is going to just tell everyone they live in a different home?

For a short time, you can.. If you ask the district kindly and explain why. Let's say you sold your home and live elsewhere but you're in the middle of the school year ... They usually make an exception but you just would have to drive your kid
