gluten free restaurant
Unfortunately 3 out of 5 people in my family have been diagnosed with Celiac disease. I have been afraid to go out to eat. I know of Mama's in Oakdale but can anyone offer advice on where else is safe to eat. I ate at Applebee's in Riverhead and was sick for a week after. I cook all our meals and am really just looking for a break lol My ds and I are sensitive to cross contamination so that makes is harder to eat anywhere but home. Anyone have restaurant recommendation for me? Thanks :)

My son was diagnosed with celiac 2 months ago so when we go out we have to be careful on what we order for him. Most of the time we are ok with grilled chicken or burgers w/ no bun. This past weekend we ate at Red Robin and surprisingly they offer a gluten free bun! You just have to watch out for fries because they might be cross contaminated.

California pizza kitchen had a certified gf pizza and it's good.
Most chains have gf menus but it's tough knowing if you can trust it. Dh gets wendys salads, burito bowls from moes, we do outback. It is hard not getting a break from cooking bc you can't just order a pizza.

Thanks. I have heard great things about Red Robin but didn't know we had any on LI. My in laws just happen to live in the Babylon area lol I know where we are headed next time we visit :)

My kids had Wendy's with no bun. I apologized before I ordered to the poor kid a the counter. I was that person on line. Luckily I went when it wasn't crowded. We have an Outback local. Maybe we will give that a try. Thanks!

Last time I ate at Ragazzi's in Lake Grove I noticed a bunch of items that were marked Gluten Free on the menu
And that place is DELISH
Ragazzi's Menu
The things with the GF next to them say they can be prepared Gluten Free for an add'l charge.... per the note on the bottom of the menu

My mom has celiac for seven years and she can eat anywhere. You just have to know what to choose. Do research before you go, look at the menus online. When you get there inform the waiter that you have a severe allergy and need to be certain that what you're ordering doesn't contain gluten. And sometimes you have to explain what contains gluten because unfortunately a lot of people have no idea! You can eat pretty much anywhere just need to be diligent and ask questions about the ingredients and make modifications when necessary.

Yes! Forgot to add this one. They were actually able to make my son a gluten free quesadilla, using a soft corn tortilla shell. Which was great because no one else offers that.

There are apps for the phones that list GF restaurants or places that have GF menu items. Most of the places I have been going to have GF options.

Thanks for the tips. I have apps for the phone and have looked online at menus. It's just at the bottom of almost all menus there states there is a risk of contamination and some even flat out say it is not safe for people with Celiac disease. I figured getting places from people who have safely eaten gf was my best bet. Thanks for the help everyone I'm glad I have more choices. Truth be told if it was just me I would take the risk every now and then but watching my children crying in pain from being gluttened is just too much

Cafe formaggio Carle place has an awesome gluten free menu. They take it really seriously there.

Dh is always hesitant about eating out. He just got sick from coffee at dd. Cpk is the only place I've seen where they have a separate aRea and I think they use some celiac approved method. Most places have gf options but won't make guarantees like you said. I would just stock up on some easy freezer meals or freeze your own for nights you just don't want to cook. Give it a few months and you'll get into a groove and won't have to think so much about cooking.

I have a gluten free diet too. I love ragazzi. To be honest it was hard to find things to eat the first 6 months but it's been a year and a half and I dont have many issues. I enjoy buffalo wild wings, anything Mexican just ask for corn tortillas etc
