I requested an Eval on for my son (2nd gr)
Spoke with School Psychologist on 3/3 and she was going to give the referral packet to DS' teacher (she noted that she is usually prompt on returning completed packet). I was advised that after teacher completed the packet it goes to the school's administrator to sign off on, then to Pupil Services to sign off on, then back to her. At that time is when we would come in to sign the paperwork authorizing the Eval. It's April 20th, school was closed April 3, 8-10.
How long SHOULD this take? I'm just concerned about the paperwork being completed and the eval being done before the end of the school year.

Did you fill out the paperwork? If you are making the referral, then you should be filling out paperwork. That will make it go faster. School referrals would be filled out by school personnel.

I have not been given anything. School Psychologist advised that the teacher would complete the referral packet.

If I'm not mistaken, they are required to have your permission in writing to evaluate him. Usually, they require your request in writing, they follow up with a "consent to evaluate" which you must sign and return. Once they have your consent, I believe they have 30 days to complete the evaluation.

I would email a dated letter . Once they have that I think they have to do everything within 30-60 days

Have you signed anything? In order to test her, they need to get your signature giving consent to testing. I would send an email following up, asking where they are in the referral process and when you can schedule the meeting to come in and sign consent. If they give you the run around, ask for the referral paperwork yourself. You ABSOLUTELY have the right to fill it out yourself. Once you sign consent the district has 60 days to evaluate and have the CSE. That's why it's so important that the initial referral paperwork go through quickly. Good luck!

Thank you - I will reach out to the School Psychologist today.
in response to previous posts, I have not signed anything yet as (to my knowledge) the eval has not been done - I was advised that the referral packet would need to be completed and signed THEN I will sign the authorization to perform the eval. I was told we would have a meeting prior to the eval, to sign and discuss what the eval will consist of.

Just to jump in on the previous post. The referral packet is the first step in the referral process. They will not test her before that packet has been completed and signed by all parties. Once the referral is signed and sent out, you'll then receive "consent to test" papers. From my experience as a teacher, it can take a while. But every school is different. I agree with the above posters that an email follow up is fine, but I would worry they are testing her without your knowledge. It just takes some time for everyone to write up the referral, get signed, etc. Good luck!

Re: I requested an Eval on for my son (2nd gr)
Sorry I did not update sooner.
I s.w school psych - apparently the nurse had the paperwork and it was held up there. She was sending it off to Pupil Svcs to have them review & prepare the consent.
(Please forgive, I don't recall the exact timeline of things)
DH went into the school on 5/8 - signed consent. She did observe DS in class, then did some IQ testing.
CSE is for tomorrow 6/18
