Spin off "I hate my hair"post.
So, what's the deal with Keratin? I have heard a lot about it and am totally contemplating doing it, but one things scares me a lot. If you start, is there no way back? Do you have to always upkeep or whatever area was treated turns into complete mess?
Is you have curly and/or wavy hair that looks like shyt in the summer and you do get Keratin, I would love to hear from you!!

No upkeep. It's not the Japanese straightening. It's basically a conditioning treatment. It slowly washes out and you can either do it again or not.

I've never done it but a good friend of mine gets it done only in the summer. It doesn't look bad when it "grows out". I think it kind of wears away after a while. I don't think it's the kind of thing where new hair that grows in is different than the rest of your hair

I did it last summer. I do the lite or Demi version. It's a 4-6 week treatment. I loved it so much I just did it again today. When it washes out y hair goes back to take frizzy self. It doesn't damage your hair. I love it. You have to wash with sulfate free shampoo and chlorine will strip it.

I get it done about every 3 months...basically every 2nd hair cut. It just grows out on it's own and leaves your hair in it's normal state. You have to use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner also. I have very thick, sort of wavy, frizzy hair and it totally tames the frizz but still leaves me a little wave. I am not big into maintenance and I can literally just wash my hair and let it air dry, run a brush through it and it's good to go. I wish I found this hair treatment years ago as it is a total lifesaver.

Re: Spin off "I hate my hair"post.
I got the Brazilian blowout. It is incredible. It's my hair, my curls just tons less frizz and a bit smaller if that makes sense. The first week the curls were looser but, now they are back to ringlets. I do recommend getting the products for after. I didn't. I got the sulfate free shampoo and conditioner from a different line. I am about a month out and I wish I had bought them. I just got them yesterday and I will see if they help. I just feel like it is wearing off a bit faster than I would have hoped. However, It has been super wet and humid outside anyway.
My hairdresser recommends just getting it for the summer. Although it wears off she says that if you get it back to back too many times it will change your curl pattern for good.

Re: Spin off "I hate my hair"post.
I have the keratin done every summer and I love it. I like that I don't have to blow dry my hair and it looks great. It lasts for about 3 months. During winter I have to blow dry my hair anyway. I have seen groupons for $99 for Keratin but haven't used them yet.

So, you can not go in the pool?? Then how can it be done in the summer??

I read that you can. It might not work if you are an avid swimmer. Someone that swims several times a week to work out. I go in once a week and don't always go under. Plus there is so much chlorine in our water anyway.....

The look salon in greenlawn does mine, love it. formaldehyde free. Not cheap though...I try and do it every 4 months and it needs it every 3.

Well, my hair dresser said at the class she took for it, they said swimming was fine but she thinks it strips it a little faster. She said salt water was fine. I don't know. I tend to not go under most times b/c I have to little kids I have to watch, so I don't go under much. I went swimming on Sat and today and didn't go under. I got splashed and it got wet. She did say that wetting your hair before going in, def helps keep the chorline out

Salt is what strips it.
Sulfate free shampoo is ok BUT it must also be sodium free. Cause it's the salt that strips it not the sulfates

I plan on going to The Look for mine in a few weeks. They just colored and cut my hair a couple weeks ago and I'm kicking myself for not scheduling the keratin treatment following my coloring!
They were doing the Keratin on a woman next to me and her hair looked great.

I do it every 3-4 months It saves me so much time getting ready, I just wash and go Try it, worse case you dont like it you can use a clarifying shampoo for a few days and it will wash out quicker but you wont regret it :)

Look in my album. I do it every few months, and love it. The first few weeks your hair will have less volume, but as you wash it, it does get more volume back, just no frizz, and it's so soft.
