Softball or Soccer for 5 yo DD
DD approached me about playing sports and it seems that she'd be interested in either softball or soccer. She is turning 5 in August and starting Kindergarten this year. In the Hicksville area, are there any teams/programs for either sport that would be a good introduction for her? TIA

Softball or Soccer for 5 yo DD
We have my 5 year old in soccer. We thought about trying softball but a few friends of mine said their dd's lost interest and attention really quick in softball at such a young age - a lot of standing around. We will probably wait a little longer to try softball.

Re: Softball or Soccer for 5 yo DD
Do they actually play softball with real softballs etc at 5? Or is it more like T ball?
I am not sure DD at 5 would have the hand eye coordination to hit a real softball. And 5 year olds can pitch over the plate?
How does this work? I'm very confused by this/
LOL

lol I think it's still T-Ball at this age. Not sure how that all pans out so that's why I'm asking. I think you guys are right either way, might be better to wait a little for T-Ball / Softball.

This.
Nell - in our area they have t-ball like softballs (they are softball sized but, a little softer). They start on a tee and then switch to coach pitch after a few games (but still can use the t if they are unable to hit the pitches).

Re: Softball or Soccer for 5 yo DD
DD played T-ball this past spring - she was only 4.5 and she did AMAZING!!! She loved every second of it. At that age, they are really teaching them the basics - swinging the bat, running to first base, throwing, catching the ball, listening to the coach and basic team work. She really had a great time and I can not wait to sign her up again.

Soccer is a fall and spring sport. The two leagues that I coached in had both seasons, and most players played both, and the teams stayed the same (for the most part) from fall to spring.
You can obviously do t-ball in the spring if you wanted, but soccer is available both seasons.
