Where should we go?

Looking for ideas on where to go. I've got a lot of restrictions lol:

DH and I, no kids
3-4 nights TOPS
Flying is ok, 6 hours or less
Not a beach
We need some kind of activities. Outdoor would be good - biking, etc.
Open to all inclusive but doesn't have to be
Time of year would most likely be next summer but if summer is not ideal I could try to figure something out (I'm a teacher)
Not Southern California
Not a cruise (I like them but need something different)
I'm open to Florida but don't want to just lay on the beach
Nothing crazy expensive but doesn't have to be dirt cheap either

I was thinking San Francisco but wanted other ideas too. Maybe Costa Rica?

New Orleans- so much to see and do and the food is INSANE.

Miami

Costa Rica is beautiful. There's plenty of activities to do and the beaches are beautiful. I flew into Liberia airport, I did not go to San Jose.

Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway - it's beautiful and there's so much to see and do. There are many place you could start but when I did it we flew into Charlotte NC and drove thru to Asheville - a fun small city! aside from Asheville, we stayed in Chimney Rock (and can't remember where else) but there is so much to see along the way and some great hikes too.

Going to Napa and San fran next month for a long weekend. I can send you the itinerary once we make one.

I highly suggest Peru. Especially if you're going without kids. The food scene in Lima is incredible. I can send you my itinerary for that if you'd like.


New Orleans is my fav US city so far, but I don't recommend you go in the summer. Itinerary avail.

Was in Barcelona last September and LOVED it.
I would move there if I could.

I didn't think I'd be this excited (been there before as well as CA) but Disney World!

I bet it would be fun even without kids ;).

And of course you could still go to Cali.

One of my fave trips was driving up the coast.

We did one day at Disneyland.

San Francisco/Napa/Sonoma - we did 4 nights - 3 nights in SF, 1 night in Sonoma - would have loved another night.

New Orleans - not ideal in the summer but lots of fun

Chicago - lots to see and do - great museums, great music, great food

Austin - again, great food and great music scene.

We are heading to Nashville for 3 nights at the end of July.

I was thinking Miami too but I wasn't sure if there was enough of what we were looking for (we're not looking for a party atmosphere.) Will look into that more.

New Orleans I've been to by myself a few times and DH and I have been to Chicago separately.

LOVE the idea of Iceland but I don't want to be across an ocean from my son.

I loved Spain...its been awhile since I have gone, but I would love to go back! Vegas maybe? Lots of things to do there!

You have limited time. I wouldn't fly to Costa Rica for 4 nights (though I did love it). Even a flight to Midwest will take a serious number of hours.

Do you like biking? Do a bike tour (upstate).

Like hiking? Go to Mohonk (it is ridiculous $$$ but at least you don't fly).

Like the water? Learn how to sail with lessons. Go fishing on a charter. Alternatively, learn how to scuba.

Like to cook? Do cooking lessons (culinary institute).

While I love Miami & florida... Activities there are beaching & boating. Sounds like you don't want the beach.
