Maternity Pre-admission hospital paper work... bill question
My doctor's office gave me this stack of paperwork to fill out for hospital pre-admission. Of course, within this stack there's a clause buried in there that we (and a witness) must sign that says we guarantee to pay any bill that is not covered by my insurance carrier. I know that if I don't sign it, the paperwork won't be processed. But, I also don't want to get stuck with a huge bill for an anesthesiologist (just as an example) that doesn't take my insurance plan and happens to be the one on call the night I go into labor.
What do you do in this case? Is there any way to "cover your butt" so to speak? Would it be nutty to include a letter in the stack of paperwork that states we only want medical staff that accepts our insurance plan to provide medical services to me and baby? Would they reject such a letter? How would I even word it?
Thanks so much!

I would call your insurance & ask about that. I know I did & I was told it would be covered because it's a hospital situation. It was. Most anesthesiologists I ask don't even comment on what insurance plans they are in. All he said was he cannot say for sure.

Contact your insurance company to see if epidural would be covered. You may have to pay a percentage OOP for example I have to pay 80% of the bill ( my OOP)but anesthesia is covered.

There is a new law that went into effect on March 31, 2015. It is called no surprise billing. Here is a link with some details but I would definitely call the hospital.

I always speak with the departments before hand to make sure that everything is covered. I also add to the bottom of the form that I want to be notified if anything is not covered prior to it being done.
