Is an office with one RE better than a group?
Hi Ladies I have been with Reproductive Specialists of Long Island for a little over a month. I really like Dr Sung, but not so sure about the support staff. Day after consult they did an unmedicated iui because I happened to be ovulating so I was impressed they didnt tell me I had to wait for all the testing. On day 21, they said estrogen was low (it was 89 and they like it to be 100) and wanted me to take supplements incase I was pregnant. I thought estrogen to support a pregnancy when sono already showed a good lining was odd but did it anyway. I got my period and asked if I should stop the estrogen and was told no by the nurse who was surprised to learn I was even taking estrogen. Last week when my "follicle" was on the small side I questioned it again and got a call to stop taking it. Now day 21 of this cycle and what they thought was a follicle is a cyst and no one can give me any explanation. They are going to let me speak to the doctor hopefully after blood work and sono on Friday. They say I have some small follicles on the right side since I stopped the estrogen and they want to see if they are growing. I am not doing clomid or other meds because I am not comfortable with the possiblility of twins no matter how small the possibility. If unmedicated iui doesnt work, I guess we would do ivf with just one egg and hope for the best. I have had lots of blood work and an HSG and so far no diagnosis. DH has a "slight male factor" according to 2 semen analysis. First one showed alot of sperm with motility issue and second showed not alot of sperm and motility and morphology issue. I really would like to keep my stress about all of this at a minimum and am wondering if the communication would be better with an office that has one dr and not a group. Thoughts?

It sounds like you have your answer. You need to go with your gut. If I was in your shoes, I would talk to the doctor and if you don't like his answer, switch. I cycled with 3 different RE's and consulted with one other before I got to where I am and I am so happy I ended up going with my gut.

any office would be BETTER than this office. Go someplace else as this office will cause you extra stress. The words they are letting me speak to the Dr on Friday?? you should be able to speak to the Dr now. JUST know Dr Sung and the rest DO NOT CALL pts back. I left, they caused stress and messed up too much.
Find an office where the Dr's are vested and care about pts. LI IVF, RMA, SIRM, Gold Coast, Zapantis....

You have to feel comfortable & confident in your doctor. I go to this practice & have become accustomed to how things work & I do like the staff there. However if you search through old posts of RSONY you will find people who like it & people who hate it with horror stories. In the end you have to go with your gut & what you feel is in your best interest. GL!

When I first did IVF I used a large practice in Brooklyn. I never saw or spoke to a Dr unless it was for a procedure. I am currently almost 7 weeks pregnant from a cycle I did with Dr. Zapantis and Dr. Merhi. I loved the personalized attention when going to a small practice. Dr. Zapantis and Dr. Merhi actually know who you are when they see you.

It depends on the practice. However I hear that this practice isn't on top of its stuff as much as others.

This is why I left RMA and went to SIRM. Even though at RMA you see a Dr at every sono it is a different doctor almost always. Your assigned doctor didn't even perform the procedures unless he was scheduled to do them that day. When I was having issues and had questions I would always get different answers/explanations. I was much happier w/ Dr. T - he personally would answer all my questions via email whereas at RMA I had different IVF nurses getting back to me. GL!

I am in shock reading your post... seems like they are all over the place and really surprised they dud IUI without any tests first. I have experience with a small practice (Dr. Zapantis) and now RMA (Dr. McAvey). I love Dr. Z's office and had a successful IUI (loss at 8w) and only left because I got new insurance. I am currently with RMA, Dr. McAvey at the Garden City office. I was unsure about a large practice at first but she's even more available to me then Dr. Z. I email her personally and get a quick response. I'm currently 6w5d after IUI. I only had 1 SA and everything was above average except motility was extremely low. Goodluck but your in good hands... elsewhere!

Totally different experience. Only one time did I see a doctor other then my own at a sono with RMA. It was a concern of mine but it all worked out for me.

I went to RMA in the city ... not sure if that makes a difference - there were like 7 doctors there when I was cycling with them. If I ever had questions - they were directed to my nurse bc I didn't have a chance to even ask my doctor - even when I called. Glad your experience has been different though!
