Women contemporary care in Mineola

Hi ladies,

Yesterday I had my first pre-natal visit (i'm 7 weeks), i made an appointment with Women Contemporary Care in Mineola, after waiting almost an hour an a half to see the doctor, she brings me an DH in and she totally handled my visit more as a gynecologic visit rather than a pre-natal.

They didn't do blood work, they don't have sonogram machines in that facility, which i was very upset about almost in tears, the doctor explained that all sonos are done in a radiologist office and wont be done until my 12 week visit, along with my blood work.

I told the doctor there was no way i was going to wait another 4 weeks to do a sono, she finally gave in and gave me a referral to zwanger and pesiri for a sono (which is scheduled for tomorrow).

My questions is:
Is this normal? All of my friends that already have babies told me that's total crap and i need to change practice which i'm doing that today.

Please give me any feedback.

Re: Women contemporary care in Mineola

I had a terrible experience with this office when I was pregnant last year. I went in for my 8 week visit and, like you, treated it more like a gyn visit. They told me I needed to take a pregnancy test to confirm pregnancy even though I had papers from my REs office confirming pregnancy and that I had been monitored up to that point. I had already saw the heartbeat at the REs office.

Then to top it off when I got to the office the office staff tell me, o as of today we aren't taking you insurance anymore. I flipped.

If you aren't happy with that office I would try and find another one ASAP.

The obgyn I found after that did all ultrasounds in office.

Re: Women contemporary care in Mineola

This is my second pregnancy (and second OBGYN practice) and I can tell you that this was not my experience with either one.

With my first I went in and they took blood and vitals and we had a conversation about LMP, due date and she explained a little about what to expect for the next 35 weeks and dos and don't. I was also referred to facility for a dating scan. This was around 6 weeks.

With this pregnancy, I went in at 8 weeks, they took blood, vitals and then an ultrasound in the office to determine how far along I was.

I think if you are not happy with the way they are handling your pregnancy, you should look into other OBs. There are so many fantastic ones out there. You are still really early and you want to feel comfortable with the process.

If you are interested in looking around, I can recommend my current OB - she's wonderful. Let me know!

Good luck and congrats!!!!!!

some offices send you out for sonos. I personally could never go to an office like that. im a nervous nelly everytime im preggo so I need to have sonos and bloodwork done starting at like 5w. my practice also has a bit of a wait time, depending on the time of day. but i'll never switch practices just because I know I can get a sono whenever I want without a problem. mine is in garden city if you want the name PM me. Im not sure if they are accepting new patients but its worth a try

I use Women's Preferred Health. They have two locations - Woodbury and Manhasset. They deliver have NSUH - Manhasset. I have met 3 of the 5 doctors there and they are each very good. My favorite is Dr. Morris-Rush and I really like Dr. Prince (male) as well. I've been there several times and so far I have found the wait times are not too bad. I usually ask for an early morning appointment, but if I can't get one, the wait is a bit longer but not unbearable. The staff is super nice there too. They do all sonograms except the 20 week anatomy scan in the office. They even take all blood and do the glucose in the office, which is convenient!

Yes with this office it's normal. I went to them early 2013 when I was pregnant with DD since I used them in a previous pregnancy in 2007. I ended up switching. The doctors I liked both left the practice by that time and first OB visit we just went over my history and they did BW no sonogram. This was before they moved down the block to the new office at the time they had a Sono tech but sonos were by appointment with her. The wait was crazy (hour and a half) and I was just shocked how much it changed since I was there before.

I switched to Long Island Womens Health Associates in Bellmore. I loved it there except for the wait times. They delivered my DD but I switched this past pregnancy because of the long wait times to North Shore OBGYN associates. Love it there no wait times and they just delivered my DS almost 2 weeks ago.
