Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
I'm going in for my fourth iui on Friday. I had a miscarriage in late 2012. For a year my OBGYN assured me I would get pregnant again which did not happen. In March of 2014 started seeing a specialist and then did two unmedicated iui's with no success. He too thought I just needed "a little help". Then took a break from the specialist. Last month did an iui with clomid, had 4 follicles, no success. This month doing another iui Friday and took fermera this month. I am so miserable right now I know this month is not going to work either. Has anyone ever felt they were just wasting their time?

Re: Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
I never did IUIs went straight to IVF which I started in April 2011 and didn't conceive until January 2013. Even doing straight IVF you don't always end up with a BFP first cycle(did 5 including frozen cycles).
A lot of women do have success with IUIs so don't give up
Good Luck

Yes, hang in there. Unfortunately all of the "time wasted" will get you where you are meant to be.

Thanks for the replies. Just do not have it in me to be optimistic at this point. After Friday need a break for at least two months need to get back to my normal self. This is just a waste of time for me at this point, I know it in my gut,

Re: Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
YES! I feel the same exact way as you do at this point. Our journey has been going on 4 years, I am 42 years old. I've had multiple failures and miscarriages with both IUI and IVF - we are on our last cycle. It's our last hoorah.
The only thing I can say that I do, that keeps me going, is to not let it consume you. Keep going as long as you can, but still live your life.
Good luck to you, be patient and good to yourself, and hang in there as best you can!

I'm sorry you're feeling this way. It sounds like you do need a break. You also might want to consider getting a 2nd opinion when you're ready to get back into it. I don't think you should ever feel like you're wasting your time and if you do, I think it means you need someone to look at your situation more carefully. Good luck!
ETA- After many failed IUI's we moved onto IVF which gave us our miracle So it was definitely worth it!

I totally feel like I have to waste so much time doing IUI's. I have unexplained so I am pretty sure IVF would work. unfortunately with my insurance i have to do 6 IUI's first.

I feel same way at times. I am 41 and have been at this for almost 3 years. Because I only have one ovary and other issues, I went straight to IVF- no iui- actually I did one for the heck of it right before school ended. found Dr. T and new hope but first retrieval cycle with him was a bust. I feel like time is ticking yet something in me says to keep going and not give up. listening to that inner gut for now. Good luck…

I didn't do IUIbut IVF and took 3 attempts. The fourth one worked. It was very hard at times and I took many breaks. However you need to do what's right for you,

Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
I felt like that at the time. Wasting time and money. 3 years of ttc and 3 ivf cycles and I now have the most awesome 14 month old DS, so now I don't consider it wasted time.
On our last attempt at ivf, I read the book Spirit Babies: How to Communicate with the Child You're Meant to Have since my dh's coworker suggested it. I did some of the things in it even though they seemed crazy, but I think they kept me in a good frame of mind.

Re: Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
YES!! I was doing treatments on and off for 3 years before I got PG with my daughter. It is the most stressful thing I went through. Your doctors seem very optimistic, so that's good. I really have no advice, just know that you are not alone.

You're not alone. We are about to do our 4th IVF. I never thought we would be here. Our first IVF we conceived DD but that was 8 years ago. Since then I have had 4 miscarriages including 2 from IVF so it's been a long drawn out struggle lasting years but you just try to keep going. Sometimes you need a break to just regroup mentally..at least I did. Good luck

Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
Hang in there I'm on my 5th IUI 1st with Chlomid, 2nd with Femara, 3rd, 4th and now 5th with Gonal F. This is our last one and then we are moving on to IVF - I feel the same way like I was wasting my time with the IUI's BUT I feel satisfied that we really gave it a good shot because I would have never known... Good luck to you on your journey to a little one :)

I now just had my 4th unsuccessful IUI. I admire you all as you are more optimistic then myself. Not sure this journey will be continuing for us.

So sorry. I've been there. I thought IUI had to work for me since we were unexplained and looked good on paper. My RE was even very optimistic IUI would work. Well nope I had 6 IUIs and nothing. I asked myself if all this pain, physically and emotionally was worth it. For me it was because I knew I wanted to be a mom. I knew I had to be a mom one way or another. This coming from a girl who was deadly afraid of needles. I'm not gonna sugar coat it, it was hell to get where I am today, but I'm FINALLY a mom. So YES it was all worth it. A ton of tests, 2 REs, 6 IUIs, 3 IVFs, and a FET. My final IVF worked with change in RE and meds. I finally had a reason to why I was unexplained.
While it really sucked getting here, I couldn't imagine being any happier with the baby I have. He may be the only child I ever have and while I can't forget all the heartache I'm trying to accept that was my path.
If you have any questions or need advice feel free to FM me. Hang in there.

Re: Do you ever feel like you are wasting your time?
Thanks, trying acupuncture now, don't think I have it in me to do IVF. Thinking about trying a different doctor to see if there is more of a diagnosis that can be determined. My doctor does not seem to be listening at this point. I know this is not really the case but I find this whole process demeaning and need it to be over.
