High Triglycerides and Cholesterol
Long story short, I have had trouble with my lipids for almost 5 years now. My triglycerides are the biggest problem. They range from 850 all the way down to 70. Mostly sit around 500.
I have seen 3 different primary Drs. within this time and they all have different answers. Keep dieting, exercise, you cholesterol is good so I wouldn't worry, etc etc etc. Now my cholesterol has been at 205-214 for the past 2 years and triglycerides hovering around 500.
I NEED a Dr. who can help me! The only time my Tri are good is when I go totally carb free. Within a month, they are in normal range but my bad cholesterol shoots through the roof and then my kidneys cant handle it. Peeing blood and causing multiple kidney stones.
I Don't know what to do anymore. I could only imagine what my arteries look like after 5 years of this.
Anyone have a Dr. Rec for me or any insight?
TIA

Re: High Triglycerides and Cholesterol
I'm sorry you are going through all this!!
I don't have any insight re: the cholesterol, I would only say maybe since the traditional docs don't seem to have the answers, how about an alternative medicine doc? I took my husband to Dr. Richard Ash (the doc on the radio 770abc) for a workup. He doesn't take insurance but they will submit a claim to your insurance company for out of network benefits. Disclaimer: he does push his supplements as treatment.
He does some tests that are totally different from what my dh's doc was ordering. We ultimately got something good out of it.
Just a thought. Good luck!

Re: High Triglycerides and Cholesterol
No advice, but DH has gone through this forever. His triglycerides are at 1500 or higher without all of his meds, even with eating great and exercising. They thought he had hemochromatosis because of his excessive triglyceride level, but he is only a carrier of it. Has your doctor ruled that out? I know it's frustrating - hope you get your answers!

Re: High Triglycerides and Cholesterol
I would think either a cardiologist or even an endocrinologist can help further investigate the issue moreso than your primary.
Does your primary currently have you on meds right now? Have you seen either one yet?
Silly question; but are you also taking mega doses of Krill Oil?? I hear Krill fights cholesterol a lot better than the Fish Oils.
GL!

Funny you say this because after sitting and thinking about it, I realized I can call my Endo (who I see for my thyroid) and see if he can help.
He took me in right away and we discussed my numbers, along with what the data shows about high triglycerides. According to him, he thinks even though the numbers aren't pretty, I'm not in any immediate danger. He doesn't believe in prescription meds unless absolutely necessary (bc of the side effects) He believes I can control them with regular fish oil. He said 1000mg a day and stick to my lower carb diet.
So this is what I am going to try. I get retested in 3 months.
I feel so much better after just speaking to him.

Re: High Triglycerides and Cholesterol
My mom has high cholest/tri. She is on meds but also the fish oil. Not all of these fish oils are great. Look for a pharmaceudical grade fish oil. I think she gets hers through Amazon. Hope that helps:)
