Did you still register? I don't really see the point but my family is telling me I should because people will buy gifts anyway.

I don't want ANYTHING in the house until I am home with a healthy baby. I suppose I could just register at the end and put my MIL's address? She's the biggest of the registry pushers.

If you didn't have a shower

At the very least registering will give you the ability to use a completion coupon after the baby is born.

I didn't. If I'm not asking for gifts, then I really don't see the point other than the discounts and coupons you can get from them. The things I did still need, I just made a list of and crossed out one-by-one as DH & I bought them (they were from all different stores after researching quality and prices).

Yes! People still bought gifts for my children and some people prefer buying off the registry. Plus, for me it was my "list" of stuff I needed. And the completion coupon is useful.

Re: If you didn't have a shower

Yes because

1) people still got me gifts, and id rather them be what I need (running around returning is a pia with a newborn at home and a clueless husband)

2) I took advantage of the registry completion coupon

Re: If you didn't have a shower

I'm Jewish so no, I did not have a shower. Yes I did register. People will buy you gifts anyway so it's better if its stuff you actually want and need.

I didn't set anything up or have anything in the house until my dds were born. I Did get some gifts before the birth, but I didn't do anything with it. If you're that superstitious set the registry address delivery to your parents or in laws. Or you can make it private until the baby is born and then people can find it.

We registered and bought out our own registries. I only set it up for the completion coupons and didn't share the registry with anyone unless they specifically asked.

Yes. Completion coupon, 10% back at BRU for all your purchases, and I used it as a list and way to stay organized.

I think this will be me! We are Jewish so will probably register but leave gifts in boxes.

Yes, this is my plan- nothing set up or on the premises. I'm glad to see it can be done, now I feel less stupid telling MIL to shove it.

The best part of this? I'm not Jewish, but DH's family is. The irony....

100% the same for me.

Side note, both DH and I are Jewish, but we still set up the nursery so we wouldn't have to deal with it after the birth. It's all about what you and your partner are comfortable with.

I won't be having a shower but I'll definitely be registering because people will be buying gifts once the baby is here. I also plan to not make my registry visible until the baby arrives, so that'll avoid receiving any gifts prior. Anything I'll need for when the baby comes I'll get from close family and will just tell them what I need.
