My surprise pregnancy is ending in a miscarry..and looking for advice as what to expect
as far as bleeding and pain. Based on today, I'm almost 8 weeks but starting spotting on Sunday night which has gotten worse. I had a sono and there is no evidence of a sak or baby. I am bleeding now but not heavily. I know it's different for everyone but how long does the bleeding usually last?

For me, I would have been 6.5 weeks when the spotting began, and in total it lasted about a week and a half, on and off heavily bleeding and spotting. Passing what I have to assume was the sac was the hardest, it lasted a few more days after that and then I had my AF right on schedule 31 days later.
I'm so sorry you are experiencing this. It's never ever easy.

My first M/C they didn't see a sac. it was a heavy period and things went right back to normal. It lasted the same amount of days as my normal period too. I am so sorry :(

Oh no, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I just had an 8 week loss too, but I had a D&C before I started bleeding or anything. What does your doctor say to expect?

did they draw any blood? do you know what your beta level was?0
if theres no sac or anything it may just be a slightly heavier period.

No, I was definitely pregnant...it just wasn't viable. They are drawing blood to make sure the Beta numbers are dropping and it's not an ectopic pregnancy. It just really sucks. I was so excited and this was really the last chance. At my age, I shouldn't be trying to have another child.
Thanks ladies.

You could have had a chemical; positive HPT and low beta numbers. That would show no sac or baby. What ends up happening it's like a heavier period once you start bleeding.
What was you beta?

Re: My surprise pregnancy is ending in a miscarry..and looking for advice as what to expect
I also had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. My doctor had told me to expect a heavy period (at the time I was only spotting) and honestly that was a completely inaccurate description of what was to come.
Yes, the bleeding was heavy at times and the cramps were extreme, but my body also went into labor trying to pass all the tissue. I had contractions and was in more pain than I ever experienced in my entire life. It was so awful I really wanted to die, and no pain medicine could even take the edge off.
My cervix wasn't open so the tissue couldn't pass. The doctor then decided to schedule me for a D&C. The morning of my D&C I went to the bathroom and felt a big whoosh, it felt like all the blood and tissue in my entire body had dropped out of my vagina (sorry to be gross), but then I instantly felt relief.
My D&C was cancelled and I felt so much better.
While I was having the awful contractions I googled and read every chatboard in the world where miscarriages were discussed and I realized my experience was not uncommon.
I don't want to scare you, but I think it's helpful to know that if it feels way more involved than "a bad period" you shouldn't panic.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I miscarried naturally and without much discomfort. Emotionally, it was much harder then I expected and I still feel the loss. I didn't realize I so wanted that baby. I wish we could try again but being in my 40s, I don't think it's such a good idea.

Oh, I'm so sorry. It is so hard. I still think about my lost baby every day.
What does your doctor say about trying again? Maybe you don't need to give up yet.

Other then my age, there is no reason not to try again. I"m not peri menopausal and have no other risk factors other then my age. I go back and forth and would only try again, naturally meaning no intervention - just dtd. I think my husband really really wants to. While I thought he would be so upset with the surprise, he was so excited about having another.

I am sorry for your loss. If you decide to start trying again, I highly recommend taking this -- it's supposed to keep your "eggs" young and healthy.
Royal Jelly & Bee Pollen
Edited to add: one tablespoon a day starting now until you get your bfp

I agree. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and I was told expect heavy period like pains. I felt like I was in labor. I could not have a d&c due to family issues..so I was given 4 pills to help bring on contractions and pass it. It was awful. Some friends told me it would be bad, but I never expected what I saw.
