What do you do at Disney before you can check in to your resort?
Do they store your luggage? Kids and I are taking Magical Express while DH gets rental car and meets us. Should DH take luggage with him?

They will store your luggage. We have done this several times.

I would just go with your husband in the rental car. It will be faster than taking the Magical Express. You sit on the bus and wait for it to fill up, then you stop at multiple other places typically. Yours could be first, or could be last. Sometimes it's almost 2 hours before you get to your resort after you land. A car rental is super easy. Walk to the garage, get in and go! Just something to think about.

Re: What do you do at Disney before you can check in to your resort?
I disagree about going with your DH. If he gets the rental car they will not transport his bags, and if you go with him you will have to go to baggage claim too. Magical express will only transport bags of those actually riding. I would take the kids on the bus, let your DH get his bag and take the carry ons and the rental car. They have luggage carts he can take to the rental car so he doesn't have to carry it all.
I disagree with the above about how slow ME is. Yes you do wait, and make additional trips. Our last two trips to POR we traveled with my parents. When we got off the plane, we took a bathroom break and split up. DH, the kids and I went to ME and went to the hotel. My parents went to baggage claim, then got their rental car and drove to the hotel. The first time we pulled into the hotel lot at the same time as my parents did. The second trip the ME bus actually got there about ten to fifteen mins faster than my parents. While it seems long time to wait in line for the bus, sit on the bus while it fills, than go to 1-3 resorts (POR was the fourth stop both trips for us). It can take just as long or longer to get your luggage at baggage claim, get in line for the rental (depending on which service or company you use you can go straight to the car as my parents did), install car seats, figure out where you are going etc.
You have two choices, leave luggage/carry ons in the rental or give it to the bell services. We left our carry ons in the rental because we did not want to give certain carry ons with valuables to bell services. Bell services will happily hold your stuff until your room is ready if you prefer that route.

Re: What do you do at Disney before you can check in to your resort?
Also how early will you be arriving?
We got a text around 11am that our room was not ready and they would text when it was.
We arrived to the resort around 1 fully not expecting the room to be ready but checked wIth registration and it was.
Have a fun trip!!

The kids love ME also as it is part of the Disney experience. I wouldn't let them miss that

what time do you get there? your room might be ready sooner than you think. we were just there last week. we got to orlando, grab lunch and went down to get right on ME.... about 10 minutes into the ride on ME, i got a text saying our room was ready, with the room number and that we could go right to our room (i did online check in before we left). we left Newark at 9:15 AM, and we were in our room at disney by about 1/1:15. so--- you might not have to wait for your room at all. but even if you do, the resort will hold your carry-on bags for you... ( we did that on our last disney trip when we had a breakfast reservation the morning we were leaving, before we had to get on ME)

Re: What do you do at Disney before you can check in to your resort?
Thanks for the responses. Kids and I are definitely taking ME. I know it takes some time but I also think it's part of the experience (we just did rental car last time). DH is going to do a food shop after getting the car since we have a kitchen. I was planning on just chilling in the pool with the kids. We are arriving around 9:15am so I know the room will not be ready that early.
I am confused about one thing though. I thought you didn't need to go to baggage claim if you are taking ME? I thought they handle it for you? DH and I will check one large suitcase for the two of us and one large for the kids. Those and everyone has their own small carry on backpack.

Every single time we have taken ME it takes FOREVER and a day! The times I rent a car it's always faster, even getting my own bags. Everything at Disney is hurry up and wait though IME! But of course whatever is easier for you :)
And yes, put the tags on your bags and you don't need to go to baggage claim. They deliver them to your room a few hours later.

Re: What do you do at Disney before you can check in to your resort?
If your DH and your family are on the same flight, I would just go with DH to get the rental car. It is really easy to get your rental car at the MCO airport.
I don't think you are going to save any time going directly with ME, especially if you are not the first stop.

You don't if you are taking ME. But if he is not taking ME they might not take his bag. Just when you put the ME tags on the bag use tags in your name and your kids, not the ones in his name. Then it will be a non issue.

Re: What do you do at Disney before you can check in to your resort?
That's fine. You'll have 2 checked bags for 3 ME riders. They can all get transported for you. And you won't have to worry about storing those particular bags because they will be delivered to your room at some point after you get your room. (It can get there considerably later than your room is available. )
The last 2 times we went, we had all our pool gear in our carry-on bags and did the pool and lunch while waiting for our room. We didn't need to store anything, but it's easy to do.

yup! you should be fine if you only have the 2 checked bags for 3 ME riders... they'll take them both for you and definitely make sure you pack your bathing suits and maybe even a change of clothes in your carry on, and whatever else you think you'll need right away. it can take a couple hours for your checked bags to get to the hotel have fun!!!!

Not sure if you did this, but the key for rental cars is to use the kiosk. I never see anyone using them! They are always standing in the line that is 20 people long. It literally takes 3 minutes at the kiosk. If I use Hertz or Dollar I use their "fast lane" type service, I don't even need the kiosk, I just go right to parking garage, look for my name on the board, get in and go. Just something to think about next time everyone rents a car!

That's awesome, no we are the idiots usually waiting forever, lol. We're using Dollar car rental, I'll tell DH. Thanks.

DH is Avis Premium (or whatever their frequent program is) and the car keys are waiting for him when he gets there. It is really easy. We just walk across with him, get in the car and drive off.

The kiosks are definitely a good alternative to lines but my personal favorite was national where you can just go straight to to car aisle and pick one. I believe we did that at Alamo once too. Mouse savers has tips on how to rent with the least hassles.

We just got back. We arrived at our resort at @ 9:30 and our room was ready. We dropped off our carry on bags in the room, went to downtown, and as we got back our checked bags were being delivered. I never do online check in for this reason.
