What would you do?

I am a hairstylist with a following, in the business for over 15 years. I would say my clients range from 18-65 years of age. I recently was offered an opportunity to run my own salon. The offer of compensation is hard to refuse, here's my dilemma. It's located in an assisted living home with separate parking and access for my own clientele. So my question is if your stylist moved to an assisted living home would you follow her or not.

What would you do?

I drive an hour to see mine, so yeah wherever he goes I would follow.

What would you do?

I have followed my hairdresser to a few different salons. Wouldn't matter to me where it was. Go for it and good for you!!

Re: What would you do?

Yes. It's not the location, it is the talent of the stylist that matters.

Honestly, quite possibly no. It would really depend on the place and what it was like. Nursing home type places skeeve me out but again, I'd really have to see the location to say.

eta- I never have had a stylist that I was really blown away by. I feel like my hair looks the same no matter who cuts/highlights it, minus a few bad experiences.

Re: What would you do?

Thank you for all the responses. I have gone to the salon and actually it is not owned by the assisted living home. The whole basement is rented out to a medwell spa and fitness center. The owners have just added the salon. It is clean and modern with a separate entrance. If the people in the assisted living home want services they are more than welcome and get a discount. It is nicer and cleaner than most salons I have worked in.
As far as being skeeved out, in my business I have seen some pretty skeeved people and they weren't senior citizens. I always remember these people are someone's grandma or grandpa and I would treat them the same way I treat my own.

Agree with the others...I would definitely follow my stylist - except if it was too far away. Distance would be a bigger factor for me.

Just to clarify, my response had nothing to do with people being senior citizens.

yes- for me it would just depend on how easy or difficult it was to get there compared to the previous place.

If I went once or twice & didn't like the new place, I might leave, but I have a relationship with my stylist & I would follow her.

You may loose some people-- but you may gain others. My zumba instructor runs her own studio & she moved locations last year due to landlord issues.

Most people followed her, but then some stopped coming b/c it wasn't convenient to them anymore, but she advertised & then new people who who were closer to the new location found her & her classes are just as, if not more crowded than before.

Being in the spa may introduce you to new customers, as will being attached to the assisted living. My grandma is 94 & gets her hair done every week. if there was a salon in her 55+ apartment complex, that would be amazing.Chat Icon

Re: What would you do?

Yes, I would follow a good stylist anywhere.

I would be more concerned about salon image and potential new clients though.
