Getting through a cold
I have a bad cold or allergy attack or something upper respiratory-related going on. The pain in my throat is possibly the worst pain I've ever felt (and I've lived through partial labor and a c-section!), post nasal drip, fluid in my ears, the whole nine yards. I went to the doctor, who is reluctant to put me on an antibiotic unless this is definitively a bacterial infection. I can't have much-needed decongestants.
So, what do you ladies do for relief? Anything more than Vicks and saline nasal spray? I've missed 2 days of work and missing an out-of-town wedding this weekend. I need to get better! Any advice?

Re: Getting through a cold
Did he test you for strep throat? Do you have a fever?
When I had throat pain that bad it was strep and definitely needed an antibiotic

Re: Getting through a cold
Rapid strep was negative. Waiting on the cultures sent out. No fever. His gut is that it's not strep. Just really sore from all the post nasal drip.

Re: Getting through a cold
What about a vaporizer at night? Also a hot shower and let the room get really steamy. That always gives me some relief

I'm still trying to kick one, but the humidifier at night definitely helped.

Getting through a cold
Drink tea with honey and I know it sounds gross ( and it tastes gross) apple cider vinigar. You will get instant relief.

Re: Getting through a cold
So I just had to come back to this thread since I am actually battling a nasty cold right now and even though I am not pregnant none of the meds are doing a damn thing for me so I know how you feel with no relief.
Last night I finally wised up and dug out and cleaned my vaporizer and ran it all night.
Huge difference. I actually slept much better than I have in a few nights. I woke up feeling much better. I highly recommend it.
Mine is a cheapy one...Walgreens brand. Probably about $20. Works great though.

Re: Getting through a cold
I was so sick with the worst sore throat ever this past pregnancy, I ended up on amoxicillin for 10 days which is safe. in the end I felt better but my sore throat still wasn't better! I ended up getting sick again 2 weeks later but just roughed it out. I feel it was pregnancy related. I never get sinus infections and I had 2. feel better !

Re: Getting through a cold
Sudafed is allowed and benedryl! Benedryl helped me at night.
I have had two miserable colds and some crazy allergies this pregnancy. Throw in a stomach bug too, UGH! AWFUL!

Re: Getting through a cold
Oh no. That sounds terrible. So I've gotten progressively worse. Went to my gp today and I have a raging sinus infection, ear infection, and the start of bronchitis. I'm now on antibiotics and an inhaler that is safe for pregnancy. Ugh.
