part time teaching positions
Asking for a friend. On NYC or LI, are there many part time positions? Where should she look? Is there longetivity for part Tim teachers and do they get same benefits, pension etc. She taught about 8 years, left for child care for about 7 years and is wants to go back to only a long term PT position. Thanks!

Re: part time teaching positions
In the New York City DOE, part time is called F status. If you're scheduled for 2.5 days or more you get benefits. On Long Island whether you get benefits as part time is completely up to the district - usually based on the contract. Under the education law if you are less than full time then you are considered an annual appointee subject to annual reappointment. However if you are in an established program then you will likely easily be reappointed every year. Your friend might also look at being hired as an hourly tutor by a school district - wealthy districts like Syosset on Jericho have a number of certified teachers as tutors on staff.
